The car you passed your test in...

1952 Rover 75 Cyclops.

Already had a moter-bike license and T/O doing the testing was a Rover fan. He stated that if I could get it into 2nd gear and reverse into a parking space, that was all I needed to do. The only car where the 'crawler' 1st gear is a lower ratio than Reverse! Also had 'Free Wheel' that flipped the motor to 'tick over' that saved lots of petrol on our return trips from up the mountains!

Chieftain Mk3, can't do it anymore, seems you need a car license first
When I worked for British Aerospace Guided Weapons we built an anti tank system called Swingfire Striker that was ,mounted on scorpion tank. We had to drive them to various sites in the factory for setup and calibration of the sighting system. I went on a tank driving course (group H) to learn to drive them and take a tank driving test at Luggershall in Wiltshire. Really enjoyed it.

Worked on Swingfire on 438's but never did striker as GW went on to the drop shorts. Luggershall had one of the best Chinese takeaways in the area.

I tend to remember Striker was on the CVR(T) range. We did have a 438 on site though. Did some later work on TOW and Milan.

Ford Escort Mark II in 1979.

Had to take a day off work to go back to north Wales to take the test. Got back to work the following day to be asked "Did you pass?". "Yes". "Good. You're driving the lorry today..." and was pointed at the 7 tonner which was the only vehicle I drove for the next two years.

Driving Instructor's Toyota Corolla hatchback, back in 1987, passed 1st time - happy days.

A 1963 VW Beetle 1200 that I shared with my brother and sister.
It was only a 6 volt car, but I loved it.
The reg was 760 GHO, but I called it Oscar.

Passed first time Feb 1982, two months after starting lessons on my 17th birthday. Passed in one of these bad boys

Passed the test, then parked it up and walked back to the BSM office about 10 mins away to tell the instructor. Was promptly scolded for not driving it back to the office, forcing him to do the 10 minute walk over to pick it up again :p
