The Grinder Of Pars (Semi Crocked)
Took the Boy (8) for his first 9 holes around Aylesbury Park's par 3 course today. First time I've been on it too. Shortest hole about 54 yards, longest 97. But a few bunkers and ditches and lakes to keep it interesting. And the greens are as good as the main course and they slope a bit more!
I just took my 54 and 58 wedges + putter and the Boy had his bag. He was really enjoying it until the 5th. He got stuck in a bunker - and I mean stuck.
You try keeping a straight face when your lad is flailing away in this bunker, determined to get the ball out but it keeps rolling back in. He must have had 20 goes, he wasn't going to give up. Eventually he got it out and onto the green to 3 putt for a 28. My ribs were aching but I was so proud that he kept at it. When he finally got it out, both arms went in the air as if he'd just won the Open. There wasn't much sand left - I had to bale it back in again.
We stopped counting after that but he thoroughly enjoyed it and wants to come back for more.
That's ma Boy...........
