Took the Boy (8) for his first 9 holes around Aylesbury Park's par 3 course today. First time I've been on it too. Shortest hole about 54 yards, longest 97. But a few bunkers and ditches and lakes to keep it interesting. And the greens are as good as the main course and they slope a bit more!
I just took my 54 and 58 wedges + putter and the Boy had his bag. He was really enjoying it until the 5th. He got stuck in a bunker - and I mean stuck.
You try keeping a straight face when your lad is flailing away in this bunker, determined to get the ball out but it keeps rolling back in. He must have had 20 goes, he wasn't going to give up. Eventually he got it out and onto the green to 3 putt for a 28. My ribs were aching but I was so proud that he kept at it. When he finally got it out, both arms went in the air as if he'd just won the Open. There wasn't much sand left - I had to bale it back in again.
We stopped counting after that but he thoroughly enjoyed it and wants to come back for more.

That's ma Boy...........

Imurg.

Your little tale put a smile on my face. I'm really looking forward to when I take mine out.

I hope you don't mind, but can I add.....?

My 2 3/4 year old is a bit addicted to CBBies, so this afternoon was no different. However I did manage to watch 5 minutes of the Scottish Open this afternoon, before the cries of CBBies came from him. However after 10 minutes, and him realising that he'd seen the programmes earlier in the day. Then demanded 'golf, golf, golf!'. I duly did as I was told, and he was as happy as larry watching the golf. Good lad!

Good to see him out and enjoying it though and it won't be long before he starts beating you!

I played 9 with with my 12 year old this afternoon on the Par 3 course. On the 90 yard 5th he hit his 8 iron 15 feet short of the pin. I knocked a sandwedge over the flag and three putted and the bugger only went and made par to beat me on a hole for the first time. We also halvd one other with bogies. You're damn straight it won't be long!

Excellent stuff.

My lad (5 this month) will happily watch golf on the box for a while.

He watched a lot of the 2008 US Open play-off and recognised Rocco Mediate this year!!!

He recognises Woods and McIlroy also.

He has some clubs and I've taken him to the driving range a fair few times.

I've got my figers crossed he will have me retiring early!!!
