That Miss...Fernando Torres

as a man utd fan i could not help but burst out laughing, nothing short of shocking, left peg or not, theres no excuse, apart from that though he did look sharp and even though i despise chelsea i feel sorry for torres and i feel he got less than he deserved yesterday

Ggoing off on a tangent a bit, can anyone explain why, when Cashley kicked 9 pleces of shite out of Hernandez in the penalty area and got a yellow card for it, that a penalty wasn't given..?

According to the ref "baw wis oot"

Ball was out of play at the time of the tackle.

And that matters because.....?

Card was given for a late, bad tackle. Why does it matter where the ball was..?

That was the ref's explanation. Presumably if the ball is out of play, you can be booked, sent off, but you can't give away a penalty.

Retrospective bookings.

The ball was out of play therefore a foul cannot be given.

That is the ruling.

The Torres miss yesterday in the Man utd v Chelsea game.
Did you see it?

What the hell has happened to him the last couple of years?
ok he missed that chance but he played better than he has in ages ,they may play him anelka & matta together , utd are killing everyone with the pace of young & nani, they may try it with them 3

Got to agree Torres has been a lot better lately.
Also he took his goal well, and generally looked sharp.
As for the Cole tackle, why cant it be a red card?
Thats like saying you can punch someone off the ball, and its ok if the ball was out of play.
Im sure the ref only thought it was a yellow card offence,if it was a blatant two footed tackle that broke his leg,im 100% sure he would have got a red.

He could have been sent off, but I think the ref missed the challenge, and took advice from the lino (or whatever he is called these days) :D Should have been a straight red and it was a real leg breaker

Sorry read the post wrong.
It could have been a red card.
I have seen penaltys given many times when the player has absolutely no chance of getting the ball before it goes out of play,so i cant see the difference.
Just another point on Ashley cole[who i do rate as a good player]lots of pundits rate him as in the top 3 left backs in the world.
However imo he cant defend, but is great at going forward, any oppinions?

Never a red card just a good solid tackle but hernandez was just too quick.

I'm not having that.

I've played in games where a free kick has been conceded. At this point the ball is deemed 'out of play'. A player has protested against the referee not giving a card and the referee has turned over the free kick, back to the other team.

I've also been in a situation where the ball is dead, a free kick has been awarded, the player has crept 10 yards up the pitch and would not retreat to the foul location, so he has been booked and the free kick given the other way.

I've never heard of a freekick being turned over and given to the other team. :D

The 2nd incident could be classed as dissent and a card awarded rightfully but just because he's been booked for dissent the ref cant then award a freekick to the other side :D

I personally don't understand the 'ball out of play' explanation. If Cole had made contact a fraction after the shot, and the ball was still in play it could have been a penalty. Because his tackle was so late, and the ball had time to go out of play, it can't be a penalty. :D :D :D :D
