Tee peg custom fitting

I went for a fitting and because of my high swing speed I was recommended steel x-stiff tees with rifle shafts. Having said that I find I hit better shots with my driver without a tee and by my caddie tossing the ball in the air when I shout "Pull".

Am I breaking the rules ref. altering the characteristics of equipment by using a pencil sharpener on the broken bits of my pured tees with go further stripes?

I use pink castle tees because they give me a constant tee height for my driver.

Everyone else has put silly answers, so I thought I'd do the same!!!! ;) haha

I've found that if |I use one of those three prong tees, as long as I have two prongs at the back of the ball, I can point the front prong in the direction I want the ball to go, left fade, right draw, middle dead straight.

Also, if it's windy I'll lean the tee forward to promote top spin and keep the ball low and when on short par 3's if I lean it back it helps with backspin to get the ball to stop faster.
Why don't you just use the appropriate distance or control tee rather than messing about with a general purpose tee?

Personally, I think you're nuts if you use a tee from a manufacturer that isn't matched to the ball you are playing. The R&D will have been done with your ball in mind, rather than another random ball.

They don't have to be expensive either. I buy Tee Me Again tees from a seller on ebay, less than half the price of new tees. Stick to Pearls and you can't go wrong, but avoid any refinished or repainted tees as you can never tell what they're like underneath. A mate of mine went down this route and lived to regret it. Half of them broke with just one hit and his drives were a good 15 to 20 yards short or offline.

Mark Crossfield should do a video comparing the main tees.

A chap at my club recommended I use left handed tees. I struggled to find any on ebay but very kindly he now lets me have some that he gets directly off his supplier in China - and he only charges me cost price (£3 per tee). I must admit it is a bit of a worry when I lose one but then I think that it will be found and used by a 'rightie' and I chuckle when I think that they just won't understand why his (up until now) perfect drive goes anywhere.

PS Bloke is a lawyer so just proves they are not all money grabbing con artists!

What do you guys use when tee'ing up on the green for your putts?

I've got the Green-Chute Pro tee's which seem to work well enough (averaging 19 putts a round just now but I think I can get lower)

I went for a tee fitting at Precision Golf and it was superb. They identified and solved the issue I was having. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and it seems obvious now that it should be the sharp end that goes in the ground.... every day is a school day eh?

I have some TM Rocketteez that have a speed slot in them down one side of the tee, and I have noticed a difference, up to 5 yards more distance at times. I also have some Nike Cavity tees in which they have taken a chunk out one side, and they add a few yards on as well. Only problem is the ball falls off them quite a lot due to the fact half the top of them is missing.

The doubters always say that all TM have done with the TM Rocketteez is reduced the angle on which the ball sits and made the tee a bit longer. But I don't agree, I say try it before you criticise them.

And gryffindor, could you let me know who supplies you with left handed tees? I am a lefty and the TM and Nike tees only come in right handed, so I think a tee designed for a lefty would be great.

If you combine a tee fitting with a proper GLOVE fitting as well you'll see some serious improvements to your game.

I haven't bothered with tee fitting yet, being a high handicapper I don't think paying out would make much difference. I'll just carry on using my egg cups for now. image.jpg. I use the matching spoon to hit it and it adds 10 yards.

Well you have to be careful. Remember Rule 11-1 states that

"If a player makes a stroke at a ball on a non-conforming tee, or at a ball teed in a manner not permitted by this Rule, he is disqualified. "

Appendix IV 1. Tees, includes the restriction that

"Tees must not unduly influence the movement of the ball"

Accordingly all tees have to conform with strict limits laid down by the R&A and enforced with stringent testing. I think there is a list of conforming models on the website.

The limits cover things like the co-efficient of restitution (COR) of the "shaft" of the tee and the torque resilience of the tee "head" or "cup". This is to ensure thet there is no trampoline effect from the tee. (Older golfers may recall the controversy when plastic tees were first introduced)

In addition, to ensure that no additional lift or spin is generated as the ball launches from the tee the angle of curvature of the "cup" on which the ball sits is strictly controlled and must be witin 0.342 microns of the notional arc of circumference of the ball measured at 90 degrees from the geometric centre. Scienceboy will no doubt be able to explain what it all means ;).

Finally no tee can be bigger than 460cc by volume or longer than 101.6 mm.

Conforming tees which are damaged in normal play are deemed to remain conforming. However if you use a tee sharpening tool (pencil sharpener or penknife) you risk rendering the tee non-conforming.

Hope that helps.

(NOTE: some of the above is true) :D

I was going to say the same thing!

Since moving to Cabretta leather from Synthetic, I've added 15 yards to all my shots. Spin has been massively reduced too!

My Srixon glove has a good guide on the packaging on how to put it on. Couldn't tees come with similar instructions on how to use, so you would save paying for a fitting ?

TaylorMade just announced a new 'Poison' tee, only available in White (limited black edition next year). When Poison is used with Lethal balls it will add 17 yards..

Rich

Everyone knows how to use a tee peg (apart from Snelly who was putting the wrong end into the ground), the issue is more to do with having the right tee for your swing characteristics. I think there are too many macho guys on here using stiff or even X flex tees when they would be better off with regular.

Having seen your swing, I think you would be better off using a 'octopus falling out of a tree' tee
