Taylormade Penta

Going to get a dozen from a pro. Thought about these but not to sure due to practice being written on them

Look at this on eBay:

2 DOZEN (24) BRAND NEW AND BOXED TAYLOR MADE PENTA TP5 GOLF BALLS

I've been using pentas for a while. I like them. But then I also like prov1, or zstar. Can't really see a difference, except it's harder to play the wrong ball as less people use them.

So some one believes they area"spongy" some one else believes they're firmer than a pro v1:confused:
Mark crossfield did a test with premium balls. He couldn't split them with the numbers he was getting. Each to there own

You get the same with callaway golf balls. Most on here think they are too hard and clicky, but some think they are too soft? Callaway are described in the latest gm as being soft, but I have never found them to be so.

Some one on here once described Wilson staff dx2 as being too hard. These are like jelly babies. If they are too hard, what is left to play with?

Forget ebay, you can get TP5 from Direct-golf at decent prices. Around xmas, these were about 20 quid or so.. At that price, i can afford to lose 2 TP5 as against 1 V1... simples.

Never tried a Penta, but I'm very impressed by the new Lethal which I believe supersedes the Penta

Looked there £29.99 for a dozen. Heading into pro shop soon to pick up a box

Purchased 25 mint grade pearl taylormade Penta tp5 for 25 to play/lose in bounce games and a dozen brand new taylormade lethal to hit in medals

Around xmas, got 5 dozen TP5 for £100... should last about 3 months

this isn't as bizarre as you seem to think.

1. All these balls are designed for the sort of swing speeds that MC generates, so they shuold perform in a basically similar manner on full shots. On less than full shots, and specifically around the green, the various layers will compress differently and feel, as well as perform due to the cover, slightly differently.
2. The golfers on here all (well mostly) swing at a variety of speeds - and there may well be a few extra variables as well! This brings there full shot comparisons into the same space as the pro's chipping.

As an example, if you aren't fully compressing the mantle layer you are hardly going to get the full effect of the core.

The biggest difference in full shot performance will be between the ProV1 and the ProV1x (unless you start to include the wider range of Bridgestone premium balls) because they are designed to be different! I would expect MC to see different numbers between these two for spin and launch angles but I don't know exactly what, and how, he was comparing that you are referencing
