Tattoos

I played in a golf competition against a guy who was covered in tattoos, even had them up his neck, he looked quite intimidating. We'll, never judge a book by its cover, he was a great bloke and really good company.

If done well, fine.

I look at them artistically (they are art after all) but imo too many just look a bit naff - either subject matter of tattoo or scale of tattoo or positioning on the body or simply the body they're on doesn't suit them.
Then they generally looked smudged after a few years, lose definition and fade.

Pro footballers seem obsessed with them, money to burn I suppose. I guess a lot of people follow what they do.

Tattoo fixers is a good watch though - Magaluf drunken disaster tattoos over and over again!

I bet more young adults don't have a tattoo.
Some I've seen are a real work of art. Better than love& hate on knuckles.
if you go out on the town at the weekend in Inverness, every man and woman it would seam to have them, young women in particular, weather it be legs, arms necks or shoulders on view and elsewhere no doubt;)

Agreed mate. Got one on Instagram named Riae who looks amazing and she's head to toe in tattoos, haha. Have a look. :D

She has Miss piggy on her right thigh 😳

What's that all about.😂😂😂

None for me and unlikely in future.

How much does a tattoo cost? Small one? Arm? Whole back?

Depends on the artists and whether they charge hourly rates, or rate per tattoo design and how good and in demand they are. I'm lucky most of my work has been done be 2 extremely good and in demand artist's, however that comes at a cost I guess one of my arms alone which in still wanting to add bits to has already cost around £850 maybe a bit more, time it's done that arm alone be around £1100.

My artwork in total is already around the 4k mark. Its just something I like and enjoy but don't just splash on until I know its affordable and what I really want. But could have had it done cheaper if I didn't want such good quality and a good artist

None of my tattoos are put of a book they've all except for one (the one in my lip) been designed specifically for me and done as individual items, some have even been done as free hand artwork without a stencil, that takes a seriously skilled artist and a lot of trust in them.

Why on your back?
Surely you can't see that without a mirror or two.
I'm genuinely curious.

Because I liked the piece that was designed specifically for me, tattoos aren't about displaying myself to anyone and everyone they're for my personal benefit I like the way they look on me and see my back as a I do other parts as a canvas that can be used to create something different to the norm, I do get to see them when in a mirror or in holiday snaps, my Mrs gets to see them and likes them and one tattoo alone on my back is more of a 3 part piece that ties in together and for me it's what it signifies I don't need see it all the time I know it's there and that's all matters its hard to explain to someone that doesn't understand why you have something that can't be seen, but I guess that's just a personal thing and what makes it intetesting

...and how often do people look at the inside of someone's bottom lip?

Now that is the only one that wasn't done as artwork and was done as an irresponsible 23year old Royal Marine for a bet to see if I would do it. Its a simple word chosen by the lads I had the bet with it cost £10 yet I won £500 for doing it. Am I proud of it no, do I regret it absolutely not, would I do it again as a 23 year in the forces most probably yes because its part of who I was then and its something that I look back on with fond memories with guys that I served with and many of whom didn't make it home from tours together.

Your right nobody gets to see it but its a fond memory.

I used to work with a guy in the 80s who had "Rainbow" (the rock group) tattooed on the inside of his lip for a bet,he was also ex forces

Guaranteed! Part of my wariness comes from guys I know who were ex forces. Some of them got some when they went with a mate who was getting one done. They had quite a few mates and ended up with lots of little unrelated ones. There are most definitely some who have them in memory of a fallen mate which means something massive to them. Boggles the mind when you ask them “what’s the meaning behind that one” and you get “dunno. I went with a mate and chose it because it looked cool at the time” usually faded to hell and looks like a dying pigeon??
Some of my matelot mates got theirs done abroad after/during a good night out and woke up the following morning not remembering they had even had one done.

Reminds me of Neville in Aufweidersein.

Id be covered in them if I wasn't terrified of needles!! Always liked them but can't bear the thought of the process..... probably a good thing, I've no doubt I would of made some poor choices in my youth!

Are you afraid of the actual needles or the pain they cause? Is it the same as when people say they are scared of flying, when in reality their actual fear is probably crashing.

Everything about it, the thought of the needle touching me and breaking skin is horrendous! If I turn to the TV/watch a movie and there's someone injecting something or at docs surgery or whatever and I've not had time to turn away I'm in all sorts of bother, always have been, can't remember any trigger from childhood just completely freaks me. I do however regularly work at great heights and couldn't give a toss,if it's safe I'll go up there, each to their own and all that

I think the difference with tattoos, why I would not class it as discrimination although I don't know legally where we stand, is that tattoos are a choice, an option. No one forces you to have one. It is like dying your hair bright pink, your choice and there may be employment consequences from that. Think before you have them.

In my part of Essex if i didn't employ people with Tattoos (and bushy beards or course) i wouldn't employ anyone! Mind you i probably wouldn't employ anyone with a tattoo on their face, we work in peoples houses and its a bit intimidating for the old girls! (also no fatties.;))

Whilst at the City game on Saturday, there was a guy there. In his fifties. He was as bald as a coot, his goatee beard was blue, and he must of had twenty plus City tattoos on his head. All Manchester and City related.

I dread to think what you would be like if you have to give blood samples then. It must be horrendous for you.

I have quite a few, mainly from the forces when all our wages went on tattoo's and dirty women :p

I have my lower arms, top arms, shoulder blades and chest on both pecks.

I don't regret them at all, they all have significant memories attached to them from when & where I had them and who with.

I can wear a suit or any formal wear and they can't be seen, not that I think that is an issue now as the stigma of a tattoo being on only a ruffian has well passed.

My large lion's head on my chest was my latest which I had within the last 10 years, and I am 60 this year
