Looked forward to my first medal at my new club went in feeling confident and full of good swing thoughts. Then proceed to have my worst ever score.First drive was ok but second shot was duffed and that was as good as it got, could not hit the green from center of fairway endless three putts and even lost my putter cover.Still there's always next week. :D

Sorry to hear you didn't have a good round :(
now that the 1st medal is over with (the 1st medal is always the worse) you can relax, enjoy and show what you are really made of. :)
Hope you have a better one next time.

If only it was true! I played like a complete numpty in the Monthly Medal last weekend thinking it had to be better...

...Sunday Stableford was indeed better. I went from +16 to +13...

Oh and that's nett, not gross...

It's meant copping out of the Captain's Shield this weekend and really reinforced the fact that I need to do some serious practice.

It's felt like someone else has been controlling my body every time I've swung the club...

Its a weird and wonderful game we play. On the range on sunday , it felt like i middled everything . Today , i developed a huge slice , almost the dreaded 'S' word , for about 10 consecutive shots. I eventually realised i'd got a bit lazy , maybe overconfident , lost concentration and had somehow lost my good grip position , leaving the club face wide open on ball contact.

Luckily i realised my error but for a while i was really worried . Still , will be back there again soon :)

stevo, if it's any consolation I did the same last week, truly awful in parts. losing the ball off the tee on the 1st didn't help, which in part contributed to the +0.1.

still onward and downward? lots more to look forward to:

a return with minty,
my first society game (36 holes) of the season,
and being drawn against one of the two guys who got me started in golf in the singles!
(and when I beat him !)

As someone who hasn't threatened to play to his handicap in 2008 I can understand your frustrations stevo. The fact that you got the first one away will hold you in good stead next time. You might still be nervous but at least you know you can do it.

Do you think you were doing anything differently today. I know when I first started playing in comps with guys I didn't know that I tended to rush feeling that somehow I was holding them up all the time. All that did was make my swing too quick and I ended up hitting loads of crap shots.

The other problem can be that you try too hard, to do well in the comp and not to show yourself up in front of your fellow competitors. You can go the other way and try to be to meticulous with the swing and be too precise instead of standing there and firing it away.

Anyway there will always be another competition so keep the faith. Do you know where you finished (bet you weren't last)

On a busy tee last Saturday I hit a bit of a low scuttler of a drive that hit the tee marker on the ladies tee and ended up in the practice nets behind me. Never really recovered from that for the rest of the round.

The trick is to not let rubbish golf affect your score. It is quite possible to shoot a reasonable score without ever really hitting any good shots at all. Need to get the putting sorted though.
