• Thank you all very much for sharing your time with us in 2025. We hope you all have a safe and happy 2026!

Taboo subject - handicaps and the annual club comp.

On finals day we have the course closed all day. By then the 16 qualifiers in each section have been whittled down to the last two in a series of knockout matchplay ties.

The Club Championship and the B Cahampionship go out over 36 holes matchplay as do the Juniors. The Ladies and the Gents C section go out over 18 holes in the afternoon.

Finals day is usually a good day out to go along and see who has won the spoils.

I've manahged to get to thew semi finals in the B Championship three or four times. never won through to the final ...yet.

To even qualify for the main Club Championship would be good enough for me I think.

But my main goal this year is not coming last at the club champs, again.

My biggest achievement last year was recovering from being last out of 91 on the Saturday round of our championship(posted for all to see) to winning Sunday's round (nett). Focussed - me? I was just glad it didn't happen the other way round!

To answer the handicap part, I'm another who is always aiming to be lower - just not interested in a 0.1 at ANY time.

Sounds like a club that takes pride in having the best player possibe as their club champion , well earnt and no chance of a lucky , one off day.

Our club is not a members club and during the club champs days they still let general play people go off amongst the comp players....bloody ridiculous. In fact i'm wound up thinking about it , maybe i'll have to move clubs again
