My swing is pretty quick anyway and so if I tried to swing any harder what resemblance of control I have would be lost and the timing would be out.

Not sure what is ment by harder. This thread has had me thinking long and hard. With the driver mainly my backswing is wide and smooth. The downswing starts the same speed as the backswing. Dropping the club head into the slot. Then it accelerates to maximum speed/power at impact. Don't think I could hit it any harder or softer for that matter. That's my tempo/rhythm. Which does not change. Well I feel it doesn't anyway. All irons are hit with a half/three-quarters backswing .
