Swing speed

Around average I would think. A lot af people swing slower that they think. Just my opinion but I would think most fall in the 85-95mph speed area

You will find some folk who try to knock the skin off the ball will have a poor hand release, and have a slower club head speed than a smooth swinger with a good hand release.

As mentioned above, just keep sight of the fact that it's better technique that will increase your speed from this point, not just trying to swing harder and faster.

Not wanting to get into a willy-waving contest, but I average 82 mph with a 6 iron. Haven't had the 3W or driver measured as yet.

Good advice from MontyBrown too.

Mine was averaging 77MPH when I got measured in January.

Got quite a lazy swing, If I try to add more speed my arms start buckling and all sorts of other nasties.

I am tall and got long arms, so I guess the extra leverage makes up for it

I believe your SS should increase with the longer shafts in a 3 wood/Driver. I think DaveM is pretty close with 85-95mph but I'd say that was average with a 6 iron as most fitters measure using that. Of course their equip varies considerably, I was avg 88mph with one fitter and avg 93mph 5 days later with another all with 6 iron, go figure.
I think peoples average Driver SS's are around the 105-115mph but I dont know, maybe someone knows the correct figure?

Does anyone have (or know of) a chart showing the relationship betwixt iron speed to driver speed. I know that I was averaging 78mph with the Mizzy DNA thingy which is roughly a 6 iron and I'm curious to know what my driver speed would be..?

I think a mid iron is usually around 85% of driver ss, which would put you a shade over 90mph.

Average driver speed among club golfers is in the mid 90s. Average on Tour is about 115 mph.

Swing speed increases with the length of the club simply on the basis of the circumference being bigger, and 6 iron speed is usually around 85% of driver speed.

Swingspeed itself really isn't that relevant to anything other than the distance you could potentially hit it. It doesn't matter if you are average or not as long as it works for you.

Wow really.... I dont believe my fitting now.. I averaged 117mph with my driver according to the fitter..

A fount of knowlegde as always Ethan. :)

I am a bit extreme my average with the Driver is 114 but i can put it up over 120 if i want, and 6 iron is 97/98 so 85% looks right. if i could only get my smash factor up to 1.5 i would be able to hit it over the 300 yard marker. Funny enough the easier i hit it the worse my smash factor gets.

I had my swing speed measured and it was 88mph with a 3w, is that fairly normal?

I'm roughly a 28HCP, and I'm struggling to play to that to be honest!

Cheers
Andy

and your question is?....oh yeh, 88mph 3 wood. Yes, that's fairly normal.

You don't need any faster to play to a good h'cap either. If I could get 90mph off my driver every time, I'd be well chuffed.

I reckon I'm down to under 80 at the moment. Not good.
