Swearing with astericks

Wow, you guys have a fair bit to deal with then, I guessed it would be alot less, maybe hardly any. I am a little shocked that people do not just say in the posts that they find x and y unacceptable rather than contact a mod. Still its an open forum so people need to deal with things as they feel they want to.... I am not really a tell the teacher kind of guy I guess. People will be what they will be in my opinion. That said if I were the dad of a young member and saw something unacceptable that my young son was reading I may view things differently.

I judge it on what I would want my wee girl to read. If I think that she shouldn't read it then I will yank it. Others may see it differently.

Just shows you eh?

Amazed that folk have so little going on in their own worlds that they feel the need to report posts but there you go go eh?!:mmm:

I only report spam posts as they, in my opinion, need to be removed ASAP.

I don't think you can use that as a parameter with which to judge whether a thread/post is acceptable. There's a whole load of stuff that I wouldn't want my children to see/read that's talked about on here by adults. If you adopt your rule as stated above we'd have about three active threads!

,swearing who cares but bad spelling

On another note I like swearing (ask Dodger). However we are supposed to be adults and it's in the rules of the forum that we don't use swear words. Is it really that hard to type a reply to a thread and not use swear words?

As adults we're supposed to be able to spell correctly and use punctuation. That doesn't happen.

Live and let live, man. :o

No but she will often be sitting on my knee whilst I am using the laptop.

It's a sticky wicket this one. Chris's example I don't think carries much weight ( bare with me Chris ) .... As a rule we don't get many 6-10 year olds here so I think that's a bit strict. The youngest I see on here is 13/14 abd let's be honest what they learn at school on the bus and so on is alot stronger so again I think this is Ott modding

BUT

We have to remember ipc media own this site and as the Owners have the right to ban any given word(s) they see fit, they have a professional image to maintain as a business, like it or lump it that's it in simple black and white.

Im a member on many forums and those that are owned by publications are always tighter on abusive language or language which some may find offensive

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but the rules are there for all to read.

I use a few other forums and some of them have no restrictions on swearing (footy ones) but other forums I use have a ZERO tolerance policy and it is a temp ban on the first instance and a permanent ban second time round.

Can't see villagepriestforum.org being up your street Chris

Meh, I can't say I really have a problem with not using bag language and I don't think Chris's bar is set too badly. He is right in what he is saying, rules is rules and all that. I do like a bit of rule bending though, I'm just a rebel like that :D. The spelling police though, they should all be band!!
