At our club we have alternative comp days.

Saturday & Monday.

Question is......if I play the comp on the Saturday am I then able to play the Monday evening and submit a supplementary score for handicap purposes?

So the score counting towards the competition is from the Saturday, and Monday is purely for handicap purposes.

Thanks

What am I missing here :mmm:

You play Saturday in a comp, return your card, then play a supplementary on the Monday :mmm:

Q. Can a person, other than a fellow competitor, appointed to act as a marker return a Qualifying Score for handicap purposes?

A. A person appointed by an organising Committee to act as a marker cannot return a Qualifying Score for handicap purposes and his score must not be included in the Competition Scratch Score calculation.
Subject to the provisions of Clause 21 and with permission from the Committee in charge of the competition the marker may return a Supplementary Score.

Ok so qualifying score for handicap purposes and supplementary scores.....is that the same thing? Or does the first part refer to putting in a card for obtaining a handicap?

So from what I can gather it’s not allowed unless permission is given by the committee.

To he first reply I usually play the Monday night purely because most of he gents do so, so there’s good banter and craic especially after the round. I played yesterday and wondered if I could still play on Monday night just for the craic, but wondered if I could put in a supplementary score whilst out.

Yes but you must state your intent before starting your round, i.e. logging in to your psi terminal or however you log a comp score, in other words you can't return a supplementary score retrospectively.

Supplementary cards are nothing to do with comps. They are in place to allow members to do a card for handicap purposes and your club will have a procedure for you to follow, one being declaring that you are going to play a Sup and it MUST be returned.

We would allow those wishing to do a supp to go out with a comp but some committee may not. Check with the club.

There are two things being covered here.

1) Playing with a marker in a competition. This may happen if the player cannot find a Fellow Competitor. In this case the marker cannot put in a score for the comp as he is not a Competitor in the comp.

2) The marker wishing to record a supplementary score but not enter the competition. This may be permitted by the committee if they feel the reason for not playing in the comp is legitimate. They should ask 'Why are you not entering the comp?'
In this case the reason is simple. You are prohibited from playing in the Alternate because of the Conditions of the particular competition. "I don't like competitions" would not IMO be sufficient.

Right so it’s purely down to the committee.

This scenario is a bit “not the norm” with regards to all the examples given. I am able to play but because I’ve already played the alternative competition day I’m not obviously allowed to put another score towards it, that’s obvious. But for the social side of things and wanting to play I’d like to go it with the guys on the Monday night and have some grub afterwards.

I was thinking that instead of just playing for the fun of it with them I could put in a supplementary score stating my intentions beforehand, writing out a card etc etc.

Makes sense. I see no problem with that and can't see why your committee wouldn't also.

I would suggest, the more qualifying scores the better.

I thought that supplementary cards were intended for people that couldn't find time to play in regular / normal competitions.

That's certainly the primary purpose but it is not exclusive. As well as permitting a marker to submit a supplementary in a competition, you might also permit a member who needs to restore his competition status to play with a competition group and return a card. That doesn't seem much different from allowing someone needing to return scores for an initial handicap to do so as a non-competitor in a competition.

That's a point I made today, people regularly play during competition play with members to obtain their handicap, in fact I did it last year because my handicap had lapsed.

There is one member whose nose is out of joint because of this so I'm looking forward to seeing him @ 17:30
