I don't think I did ... And I don't think the system is a bad idea, if you have no ambition don't stifle others.

My posts are nt digs at you, it's my opinion of the system. You always get rapidly improving golfers who's HC take ages to catch up.

The system is not perfect by any means. It probably never will be unless we try and adopt some of the American system.

Okay, it just looked like you were all thinking I got all my cuts via supps, which actually is untrue, I got all bar one from competitions. This is a band aid to what is a slow system and it does work, but many golfers are not aware of it. Before I went out they were asking why and what it entails etc...

I know who you're talking about and I voiced concerns at the time but his club went their own way. That, however, was a clear abuse of the system. If Supplementaries are properly administered and rounds are notified in advance, then there are pretty well the same pressures as playing in qualifiers - same potential gain, same potential loss.
 
What tee's do you play of the whites or the yellows ? and why would it stifle ambition ?. For me it a lot of nonsense it means you can pick a calm day then play then 1 good round then boom you get a massive cut like some on hear and can't play anywhere near it.

i play off the whites. The weather is the weather, short of being a thunder storm it is part of the game, its like playing in the mid week medal, you don't have to play if your scared of the wind.
 
By the way how good is one good round have to be to get to a handicap you can't play to? 2 strokes off? 3 strokes off?

I think his point was you can pick your weather for a supplimentary, on a comp day you take what you get.

That system isn't perfect either.

I've seen that in action and while the Slope (vs SSS) part of it is great - because it's based on a Bogey Golfer rather than a Scach one - there are issues with the handicap maintenance side of it.

Basically, every round is the equivalent of a supplementary round there too. So if you don't like Supplementaries now...!

Slope assessments are apparently being encouraged from 1/1/2014.

The American system is an assessment of form rather than ability though, not perfect by any means, I've always said if we could the betof theirs with the best of ours it could be better.

I've never said I don't like, they have a purpose, I just don't think they should be used by people who play regular comps,ie more than 10 or 12 a year.

That's the problem for me, nice calm day and CSS drops to 69 whilst SSS stays at 72 for supplementary card, that's another 3 shot advantage, add in that it's not a proper comp so no real pressure despite knowing your going for a score. Every game I play is for a score be it bounce or comp so afraid I don't buy into the line you are still under the same pressure.

Thing to remember is that if you ask anyone about their best score it will 2-3 shots better in a friendly knock with family or friends than in medal play.

If SSS is 72, CSS cannot drop to 69 - maximum drop is to 71.
 
It was just as an example, did not say I was an expert in handicap matters but there is an advantage to be gained is there not?

What i was saying was that CSS can drop whilst SSS is static, hope I'm right don't want another telling off;)
