Hi,

I am thinking about taking up golf and havent played since a few infrequent rounds of pitch & putt about 18 years ago. Anyway just doing a little research into golf clubs and came across the Super Game Improvement Irons.

What are people's opinions and experiences of these?

Are they highly recommended for beginners?

Also if anyway could recommend any in particular or have used some they thought were good that would be really helpful.

Thanks.

Damian

Hi Damien, game improvement irons are definately aimed at the they are higher handicapped player and i have been using my set of Big Berthas for a few years now and find them a very easy club to hit. They are more forgiving on bad shots as well. I do know Callaway have put in a lot of development on their game improvers and there are always deals about but as has been said many a time you may want to try a few brands out see what suits you but cavity backed game improvers are a good starting point.

if your in the market for some game inprovement iron ill be selling my callaway big bertha 08 irons. the set is 4-sw and are in great condition.

Wash your mouth out Aztecs!!

Your first post on this was true to your gospel of Mizuno, but now you speak of tainted and unholy brands  :D

:D

I should have followed that post by putting "but they're both uglier than sin to look at". Doesn't bother some people. I think we all know where my loyalties lay ;)

The Cally Big Bertha's are also good.

As are the TaylorMade Burner's which can be had for peanuts nowaways.

I use Taylor Made Burner Plus clubs, live them to bits!! wouldnt change them and il be keeping them for many years to come. Ive told myself I will reward myself with new bats when i get to a h/cap of 12. so.........as ive said, keeping them for many years to come!

Welcome!!

Thanks for all the input.

From my research, seems to be a certain few that keep cropping up. Will definitely investigate further.

I am also conscious about prices, as would just be starting out. Are there any older models from say 2-3 years ago that I may be able to pick up at a knock down price?

Are buying second hand clubs ok or should I be looking to get clubs which best suit me?

Thanks.

basically you need to try out a few brands with a professional, who can give you good advice

Id look at Ping G15 or Ping K15 if you have a bad slice

Dont be afraid to look at replacing some of the longer irons with Hybrids, they are easier to hit generally,

again the pings have a good range of lofts in their hybrids

Enjoy

Or any Mizuno MX series iron. As forgiving as a forgiving thing.

Edit: Welcome to the forum by the way.

This is a great deal. If money is no object have a look at the Ping K15 and the Callaway Razor(dont know exactly what there new SGI club is called but it got great reviews)

Welcome to the forum.

It's the Razor X. Best thing about them is they don't look like SGI's and the cavity back stays well hidden at address unlike several other SGI's. I got to say I will probably stick with them till I'm well down the handicap ladder which may be until they break or I die! I had looked at S3 Max but the size of the head really put me off.

Just go and buy a set of Callaway X16,18 or 20. Nothing else comes even close, not Ping and certainly not Mizuno.

Big Berthas are OK until you try and play on a proper links course, then you might regret it. :)

Why are the Wilson Staff x31 clubs so cheap?

I read that they are ideal for beginners but the low price makes me feel that they can't be the best of clubs!!?

Let's face it; they're probably fine to play with, but the quality must be pretty poor. I know from past experience that cheap clubs don't last well...like a cheap car, good for a while, then falls apart, and ends up worthless.
