suningdale new vs old

I made a tentative enquiry last week about a day out here for my birthday treat next year - looking at this thread and pics makes me even surer it's a great idea and may have to get back on the phone sooner rather than later I think!

Go on sort it now - you're only 60 once!!

as one of the biggest Sunningdale fans out there i think this is a very interesting thread

as for which one is 'the best'... it of course all comes down to personal opinion judged against your own set of criteria
the reason we rank the new just above the old is because we feel it is a stronger test of golf than the new. for us the old wins on 'charm' - the prettier holes on the old are prettier than the prettiest on the new BUT... we feel the more testing holes are to be found on the new and the weaker holes on the new are stronger than the weaker on the old

if you want to find out to what degree you have mastered the game of golf the play the new - you'll find the answer, warts and all. if you want to have a round of golf where you'll walk off the 18th loving the game more than youve ever done the play the old...

for the best 36 holes of inland golf in GB&I then we say take a day ticket at the 'Dale. It's worth every penny

As good a summary as there's likely to be!

You should be in the course review/publishing business!

Perhaps the next GM/Forum mega meet ?

I'd love a game with you there. Am playing there in August and can take you with me if you like?

The 5th and 6th on the new are indeed, quite, quite beautiful. Two of my favourite holes.

I think for me, the closing holes on the New leave me feeling a little underwhelmed every time. That might be the clincher that makes the Old my pick. And if I'm honest, I've won more things on the Old too. That might be a crucial factor!

Thanks Dave - I am in if they do 36 not 28:)

That's does look like good - suppose I could always find somewhere else nice to play on actually birthday:)

They do charge a bit over priced on many days but the chance to play comps on top 100 courses doesn't happen very often, that said the Sunningdale days @ £275 last 2 years are pretty competative compared to normal green fees. Couple off here played this year.

Never played either, but they are top of my list, along with Swinley Forest.

I lived in South Ascot for 19 years and went to school in Sunningdale, used to caddy at Swinley, and have never played the courses. I need to put this right.
