Sunglasses

Can anyone tell me how a pair of golf/sport specific sunglasses can help your game more than a bog standard cheap pair of sunglasses?

From what I have seen, most golfers remove them for playing a shot and for reading the greens anyway.

A fool and his money ......

Do you seriously think I could drive the ball 300yrd with out designer glasses???????

I keep mine on at all times during the round, they dont help your game they are not for that but to protect you eyes from the sun during the 3 hours+ you are out there, but I have to say the quality of lenses in the expensive sunglasses are miles better than the cheap ones IMO, not just Oakley but Ray Ban and any others. You can pick them up a lot cheaper than advertised as well. Oakley Flak are advertised at £135 but can be sourced cheaper perhaps past seasons models. It is what people want to spend their money on, for example buying clubs will the dearer products make you shoot lower scores but most of us end up buying them anyway.

Very true. A good pair of sun glasses will protect your eyes, plus I'd guess most people won't only wear them for golfing so it's money we'll spent.

Keep mine on all the time (until the sun goes in that is)

Is the correct way to wear golfing sunglasses on the back of the head like the pros? Does this make you play better? I would have thought them more effective worn in front of the eyes.

After hitting a bunker shot last summer (March) and having a stone fly up and break the lens on my sunnies I now use tinted safety glasses.

Don't even look like safety glasses and they look more like sports glasses. At £8 a pair with the knowledge your eyes are protected it's good value for money!

I think most oaklays we bullet prove! I have adidas sunglasses as my eyes water in the sun but also are handy to shade the wind to. I'd have oaklays but I'm a taylormade/adidas buff so use them.

Oakleys Flak Jacket XLJ for me. The XLJ have a wider lens, so you don't see the outside of it as you would with the normal Flak's, that's why they're detailed as 'golf specific' - lens shape, nothing more than that. Retail price of £135 - I paid less than a ton with vouchers and online discount.

My eyes detriorated loads in my first two years of playing desert golf, so much so I now wear glasses for the television and driving. Wish i'd spent the money sooner. Good thing about Oakley's is the weight. You don't notice you're wearing them, no slip whatsoever when playing a shot. Easy.

Never understood the "I take them off for a shot" types either. Unless they won't stay on your head during the swing (not a problem with Oakleys,) why would you take them off? You're hitting a shot, then tracking it against a bright sky with your eyes.... when you're eyes are most likely to be damaged. Still, each to their own.

Got to look after the eyes. Well worth spending money on.

I have these, actually bought them from debenhams for about £30. They are very good, give a nice tint when it turns a bit grey too, but in the sun are fantastic also. I gave up buying expensive sunglasses years ago as I either lose them or break them. I really suffer with headaches when it's too bright, so I have to wear them on a bright day.

Nice them,good price too

As above, if you can afford Oakleys then they are the best choice. However, make sure that the style suits. I've lost count of how many blokes I've seen that wear a pair which completely do not suit but hey look at me I'm wearing some flashy Oakleys!

Is the reason I've not got any - all Oakleys look weird .......on me.:o

Will be getting prescription sunnies with my new glasses next month.

Really like those. May be tempted with a white pair.

That's what I roll with! They go a treat with my white trews! One thing I will say, is buy a hard case from somewhere, they only come with a soft bag. No good for keeping in the golf bag!

I never used to like playing in sunglasses, I always found that they affected depth perception. Bought some oakleys, with the golf specific lens, which I think comes in a couple of models (flak jacket and radar lock from memory). Wore them all day yesterday, found them really comfortable, and forgot I was wearing them. Not cheap, for sure but I'm pleased with mine. Haven't turned my 220 yard drive into a 350....perhaps I'll try putting them on the back of my head...:o

I wear Oakleys. Very expensive, but they last for ever. My last pair saw me through 10 years, which is cheaper in the long run than buying cheaper ones every few years. The lenses are superb, and interchangeable for when I ski.

But they don't save me any shots.

I've got a pair of sundog ones, cost me £20 in the half price sale in American golf a few years ago, they are a nice snug fit, perhaps to snug though as they tend to steam up. They do well with the light though, I might invest in a pair of oakleys if we ever get some sunshine!!!
