I'm looking for suggestions for a mini golf break for up to 8 people.

We are all in Cardiff and looking for somewhere within a few hours drive to go away for a round of golf and stay overnight and have a few beers. Go on Friday and play stay the night then perhaps another round somewhere else on the Saturday before coming home.

The idea is to make this an annual event but to start it off small so the other halves get used to it being a regular fixture so we can then extend them in future (I'm working up to a 3 - 4 day trip in the sun somewhere )

We don't need any fantastic championship course as the handicaps will range from about 10 - 24 so nice enjoyable club courses would do.

Nightlife isn't a major factor as we are all 40+ but somewhere with a few good restaurants and bars would be a bonus.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I've played Dartmouth GC on a trip like this, and can very much recommend it, OR slightly closer to home, I've just got back from West Wales.

I played Cardigan, Newport Links(nr Cardigan) and Carmarthen. I can thoroughly recommend all 3, with emphasis on Newport Links and Carmarthen. I'm even considering a one night trip, going up to NL and back via carmarthen. Best of both worlds, one stunning links course, one really nice inland course with a ridiculously friendly pro, and challenging greens.

The guys who run the Norfolk/Essex/Surrey Tours also do golf breaks. You can check them out at http://www.golfdaysuk.co.uk/. Give them a call and see what they can put together for you as they are also offering free golf gear/prize tables as well.

(In the interests of honesty and openness I'd better admit to the fact that Ben and Sam who own Golf Days UK are my stepbrothers so I am not completely impartial)

I know its not that far away for you but bristol is great! Me and a group of friends head there every year, stay in bristol city centre and play the kendleshire and/or the players club. Both great tracks!

What about St Pierre? Local for you all, decent hotel, not my fave courses but well suited for a group with mixed handicaps.

Probably a bit close for a night away but Celtic Manor? Cracking hotel but it'd be a bit like staying in your back garden

Forest of Arden would be a good bet, or St. Mellion in Cornwall (my geography isn't great, so not sure how far that is from Cardiff).

There's also Tracey Park, which has two courses and a hotel on site. It's a really good place and not many people know about it, near Bath.

Surely Celtic Manor is the natural choice. You could even suggest the other halves accompany you and use the spa.

Forest of Arden is another option. Nice hotel and has the 2 courses, or the Belfry of course. Hotel isn't as nice, but still you have the PGA and Brabazon.

Bowood is a nice hotel and course and easy to get to down the M4 and you could then play something else on the way home.

Further south Saunton sands has the two courses that I've never played, but hear are quite nice.

Round my neck of the woods you have Donnington Grove (hosted the trilby a few years ago) Donnington Valley, West Berkshire and Newbury And Crookham. loads of hotels (the two Donnington ones are also hotels) racecourse for an alternative afternoon and pretty good pub/bars. I should work for Newbury tourism! About 2hrs max from Cardiff.

The only problem with that Woody is that it would set a dangerous precedent for future years!

Bowood is a good shout though and we could always have a night out in Bristol afterwards.

How about heading to Dodgers two tracks, Goswick Links then take in the Hirsel. I'm sure he'll do you a deal for the Hirsel.
