Westerham's gone up £25 this year, Baz. We nicked your head greenkeeper, but seems like you got a half-decent replacement ;)

£150 feels like a lot, and to be honest, I'd rather play Addington Palace than Farleigh, so if you can get it for the price you quoted, I'd do that for a year until the works are done. However, when it's all done, I'd say Farleigh will be special.

Decisions decisions Bazza!

As said, it comes down to value. I still don't think I will renew at the Palace as I do not play enough (and its too dam tight!). I have a game at Hever this weekend and am likely to end up there on their pay & play deal. Add a few opens and a few forum meets and I reckon I will save about a grand a year.

Mines just gone down  from £650 to £450, luckily I just (by 2 seasons) fall into the 25-35 age group which was passed at the recent AGM. Apparently we only have 21 members in this category so an incentive to get in some noobs... apologies for the minor gloat  edit- £440

Joes actually a very good friend of mine away from the golf scene, it wasn't a clear cut as you nicked him, more a side step through the take over. I've seen some of the work joe has done with westerham and they course is looking nice for he's presence that's for sure, especially your 5th.

Regarding slutting it elsewhere, as I've said I had contemplated it, but the swindle at Farleigh is very unique and reliable with some great characters, I really don't see the point in leaving to return a year later,

It's all down to value for money, if I moved to a £1500 per year course I'd want to be playing at least twice a week to get my money back, which I get the impression you don't, Hever is one on my hit list if we move the the proposed area,

Ah the colt category,no think ours is around £600 but boy do I miss that category, when I was a colt member it was about £450 so it seems little has changed

Reading this thread, I am so glad I am from Scotland ... (independence debate for this kind of stuff :p)

This year I paid £275 for the year, which includes a £30 bar levy. This is the 22-25 age bracket so due to go up in a few years time but not by a huge amount. Overall I am delighted! First medal tomorrow too, can't wait!

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but having had no luck finding a course that ticked all my boxes locally I am looking slightly further afield.
That brings into my radius Farleigh, Addington Palace and Woldingham
How has the investment panned out at Farleigh Oddsocks?
Does anyone have any views on any of them?
Addington Palace has a deal on for £1200, which is near the top end of my budget, I am awaiting a reply on costs from Woldingham, and Farleigh have invited me down for a coffee to discuss the options available. (This really winds me up, more like joining a gym than a golf club!)
Any others i could have missed that are in a 15 mile radius of Reigate?
Any and all help appreciated

The politically inclusive 4 ball on the home-page are clearly having a great time.

If £150 extra gets you another year of that action it's a no-brainer

also looked the west of me and found Gatton Manor @ £1129 per year, anyone played there?

Cheers

Played it a good few years ago now. Thought it was "okay" although nothing special, and it used to get a bit claggy during the winter months, although the latest reviews say it's not quite as bad now due to additional drainage that's been put in.
A few good holes, a few incredibly boring ones.

Woldingham is nice 8 months of the year, but gets hammered in wet months. In addition it doesn't have that " club feel " about it as it seems to hold lots of societies so felt the members were a bit 2nd class when I was there.

Got two mates that went to the palace, still yet to play there so can't comment.

Re farleigh, there's lots going on there which is seeing me stay with doubt. I played Sunday and the course really was as close to perfect as it could be. All the work in the tee's is done and they are mint although I know there are plans to lift and extend a lot of the whites. There has been yet more machine investments this year, their own micro tiner for the greens and now a specialist rough cutter / collector. Oh and £100k on a complete me catering area. I kinda get why they do the coffee intro, it's so you can get a feel for the club and facilities before joining or making your decision. If you have any questions message me your number and I'll give you a bell, but if you want a round to see the course just ask.

One thing that I do really like is throughout winter months were are never on temp greens or mats, and with 27 holes even during last years monsoon season we still had a 16 hole loop open. Even though it's full greens I've never played there and thought we should be on temps which I think addington palace do with frost/heavy rain

See pm

You looked at Wildwood Luca near Cranleigh or too far West?

http://www.wildwoodgolf.co.uk/

Open all year unless snow or thunder. Greens are epic at the moment. 27 holes. Big investment due with (TBC) buyout from Jewish consortium... Looking to turn into PGA excellence centre I think. Very friendly club, loads of comps at all levels and times.

They were doing 15 months for 12 for £87p/m!

I play at Tyrrells Wood in Leatherhead and have for coming up 6 years now. Full fees are around 1,500 but we do an Academy deal for 1 year if you wanted to try it out, at 500 quid its a steal I think with tuition included in that. We are on chalk hills so rarely shut and always full greens (no temps in winter) Happy to give more details

A lot of the clubs around me have introduced new sub-categories, a lot of them very prestigious who I never thought would do, and keep their high subscriptions and whopping joining fees. A lot now you can get reduced rates if you're under 25. My last club was £120 per year if you were under 22, with free range balls and reduced prices for lessons, and although it was great for me, as a full playing member was £850 a year, it showed the desperation to get some younger members on board. It's like a multiplier effect, they know that if a club is just full of older, retired members, then a younger player is less likely to join. They have to entice younger members in, to get the ball rolling.

My club has stayed the same for about 5 years, except the joining fee was abolished a couple of years ago, so technically it's cheaper. I'm 22 so I could have gone somewhere else for much cheaper, but it's my favourite course, a few minutes from home and work, and local to my grandparents, so it gives me more motivation to play there, as opposed to joining a cheaper course I don't like as much, and subsequently not using it.
