Sadly there is a waiting list for lockers so that is not an option otherwise that would make sense to a certain extent. Still would think twice about changing to have a sandwich and a quick drink though.

We have a long par 3 where you have to call the following group to tee off, they are on the tee 240yds away hitting DRIVER at you!!!! They are also above you at the top of the hill so you can't actually see the ball flight to avoid it....
and apparently that's OK
formally write to the committee and ask -
1. who made the decision that groups standing in the vicinity of the Xth green are required to request golfers to fire balls in their direction?
2. what steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the golfers so required?
expect a reaction rather than a response!

We have a par three that you always have to wait- sometimes a couple of groups.
It used to be a call up hole but i think that was stopped after some members did just what Duncan suggested

Calling up on some (Par 3) holes were once thought to be beneficial. But that's now considered to be a fallacy and potentially dangerous. They don't improve pace of play, create/increase tension between groups and require potentially dangerous shots!

Played a course recently that had a similar situation - they had erected a rather nice 2.5m high wicker screen in trees by the green for players to stand behind.
First of all I think the SGU should be applauded for their enterprise and initiative and it is sad that the clubs don't recognise what an opportunity this was. If the SGU were running the event did they drive he meeting forward and how did they deal with the members stpid questions or did the club ruling bodies hijack proceedings

we were asked to list the good points about the club, whether that be the greens are good to food being n selected ice etc
then asked to list the bad points which could include the silly points which are still valid. as ive said the whole point was that we voted our top three bad points and they were all the sameish. hopefully good things will come of this. theres follow up stuff up in stirling for a selected few from the members

Well done SGU. The RGU ought to do the same perhaps by County through the County Union.

Homer, I posted my thoughts on the SGU presentation earlier in the thread #30.
To sum up, a very good idea but not well executed on the night.
As far as how we go forward, we fortunately have a very good chairman and good sensible people on the council, so I am pretty confident they will be able to cherry pick the good elements of the night and produce a plan to go forward. The very fact that we are not currently in trouble as a club, yet he still initiated the SGU presentation with a view to staying a step ahead of difficulties tells me he knows what he is doing.

I went to members information night at my last club, never again.
The agenda was to speak about changes to the club constitution in these hard times.
It landed up being a two hour arguement about why coffee had gone up by 5p and the fact the shoe cleaning machine had not been working for over 3 days and it was disgusting people had to use brushes. Never mind the 5 year plan to bring the club out of the red or the new greenkeeping kit needed.

I think a meeting like the OP described needs a strong chairperson to keep the agenda at the forefront of the meeting and not to let it get bogged down with issues as described.
It's a tough job and i'm of the mindset that if people are really passionate regarding issues at their club , then be constructive in the way they put them forward. We have a suggestion book and every post receives a formal response from council. Committee's have a tough enough job and in the majority of situations it is peoples free time they are giving up to facilitate the running of a club. If someone continuously bemoans the way the club is run, then they can always get involved on a committee and help change things.

With Scotland having many municipal courses and fairly cheap memberships many golfers are members of more than one club.
I know one Ayr woman who is a member of four clubs.
That is four individual SGU subscriptions.
Such funding enables the SGU to send out staff to talk to clubs about promoting good financial systems.........clever eh.
