Excellent photos, have never managed to capture lightning myself. Best I ever saw was as a kid, on holiday with the parents in America, touring the west coast. Was the one and only time I saw a massive, multi-pronged fork of lightning that didn't strike the ground. It sort of arc'd it's way around the underside of a huge cloud, like the fingers of a giant hand trying to gather the cloud up. Absolutely mind-blowing it was.
Another interesting fact though, which I didn't see mentioned on that site, is that the initial part of a lightning strike actually travels upwards. Called a "Feeler" or something, I believe. The "feeler" builds up and up in sections, until it reaches the cloud and then causes the massive discharge of energy down to earth.
