Due to the credit crunch I lost my job in November and started part time work in February. From September last year I have been doing a part time degree - after much deliberation we (me and HID) have made the decision that I should go full time and get it over and done with.

I will be a student for the next 2 years - at 29 I feel like an old fart but I am looking forward to the challenge.

Problem is I don’t qualify for the student membership at our club as I am sure the max age is 25 - I intend on writing a letter to the council asking for them to look at my circumstances. I play regularly and love the club, it would be a pity to leave for a few years and drift away. There is simply no chance of me paying full fees - I bought my house at the wrong time, my wife works part time and is a part time student and we have a 2 year old son.

So what do you think? Should I qualify for student membership?

On the face of it a full time student is a full time student so yes

I guess you will need to look at the criteria they set for a student as there may be something that rules you out

Hi Ken
there is no reason why you should be refused a student membership, regardless of age.
If they do refuse you student membership due to age then they are surely discriminating as there is no law that states a student, full time or otherwise, should be under a certain age.
I am a 32yr old full time student and take avantage of our clubs student membership and get all the perks that full 7 day members get. :)
I hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

Ken, I think your club should give it to you. Unless they can fill your membership with a full timer.
Then again you know what club councils are like!
Good luck with the letter, let us know how you get on!

Cheers - I thought it was straight forward, but one of the lads joked that I was just trying to scam them for cheap membership. I was checking that I was not being naive before the letter goes to council.

I personally think you do, i thought about doing an evening degree at St Andrews Uni which give me a links ticket at St Andrews at student rates and i'm 40 :D
