My driving has been ok for a while but recently I've started slicing a little or pushing straight left. It tends to be on holes where I've got to try and get points so I'm trying to blast it. Could it be the shaft is too flexible and needs to be stiffer ?

if your slicing or hitting straight left then your coming over the top (out to inn) the slice happens when you leave the face open. the straight left shot is when the club is square to the swing path. its a very common problem. i had it bad. my problem was my takeaway was too steep. go and see a pro, he'll sort you out in a giffy

take a look at this months magazine. Check you stance and ball position. I have been hitting the ball sharp left but only after changing my setup and moving the ball closer to centre in my stance.

I agree with going for a lesson too and it will help sort you swing out and also your grip as it sound like you right hand might be trying to overtake your left and closing the clubface.

Hi , im new to all this.
I also struggled off the tee. Was hitting big but way right so had a few lessons with one of my club pros and it really paid off. A few small changes and im hitting straight 90% of the time.

Are you right handed?

If so the straight left shot is a pull, and the slice will be a pull/slice, which, as has already been said, is caused by an out to in swing.

That'll be the problem - nothing to do with the shaft at all.

I've had that problem for years, and I think I'll have it 'till the day I die. :(

Might be nothing to do with the swing plane though? I was slicing many (most) of my drives until I had a session with the pro a few weeks back. He said there was nothing wrong with the plane of my swing, and didnt want to change that at all. He did say, however, that I wasnt "closing the door" early enough, so keeping the face open when I hit, hence the slice.

Soon fixed though, works a treat now ;-)

What advice did the pro give to fix this?

It sounds simple when I say it, but what I have to do now is start to turn my hands over each other about a foot away from the ball on my downswing. This in turns means I "close the door" of the face giving me a nice draw, or a fricking great hook if I start too early! :D

Im right handed so i bring my right hand/wrist slightly over the left as I approach the ball. Too late or not at all and I can slice it, too early and I can hook it. On the main though, my driving (and wood play too) has improved dramatically. I couldnt hit the 3W or hybrid from the deck before but now I have more confidence, meaning I can reach longer par 4's in 2. It's been a godsend, and I will definitely go back for more lessons if I have anymore time off during the week (he's too booked up on Saturdays).
