Stroke And Distance Query....putting

That is just not true. The 10 seconds noted in the Rules is only applicable if your ball is overhanging the lip of the hole. If the ball is not overhanging, 10 seconds is irrelevant.
So, putt A comes to rest, some time before its marked and lifted it blows into the hole then I have holed out with putt A?

With the wind as we get it here on Anglesey, it can be prudent to mark and lift, or sometimes, don't in the hope that it'll end up closer to the hole before putt B!

Mark and Lift and if moves (wind or whatever) after subsequently being replaced - then it must be put back on the spot. If you haven't M&L then ball stays where it ends up. Might be lucky it goes into the hole - might be unlucky and it ends up off the green. Who ever said golf was supposed to be fair...:)

interesting thread, last year in the very dry weather I was about 12 feet above the hole hit the putt a tad too hard and it went off the green and 50yds back down the fairway, why didn't I declare unplayable and have another go at the putt, even though I knew the rule I never gave it a thought at the time.
Pressure.

Pretty sure you just declare the ball ‘unplayable’ and replace for a penalty... never seen it done but reckon it’s within the rules
Do you remember all the fuss when Michelson hit a moving ball at the US Open when he said it was going off the green. He could have replaced the ball under those circumstances and taken a shot less.

to be clear on this rule....

If i am putting for a birdie 3, and i then de-green my putt in to water/rough/whatever, i can replace to the original position and putt for bogey 5?

Read Rule 19, it describes fully the relief options for an unplayable ball.

Sorry - yes - I get that. What I was thinking of was a type of relief specific to unplayable situations. I was thinking that as it is 100% the players discretion whether his ball is unplayable or not - and if there was a sort of relief defined specific to unplayable situations, a player could make use of that even when his ball is not actually physically unplayable.

I'll go read Rule 19 :)

Yeah, if you hit an approach shot in the penalty area, you always have the option to hit from that position again under stroke and distance rather than dropping closer to the penalty area, so same option in your scenario and definitely more appealing.

that's a new one on me. and one that I'm 'fraid that I really don't go too much for ;) Putt off the green - does me fine - I do it enough :)

Whenever you don't like the result of your stroke (wherever the ball finishes) you always have the option of replaying from where you last played with a 1 stroke penalty.

No, Bull Bay... Actually I think there's 5 or 6 courses on this small island, so not sure why you'd assume henllys! Though that IS a fun wee course too.
It was just that I've played it a few times and know it pretty well. Played Holyhead once and Bull Bay twice

A propos of nothing, I think the windiest game of golf I ever played was at Bull Bay. And I used to go to parties at Henllys Hall when it was a rather dilapidated hotel, and long before there was a golf course there...

Lol the first 2 holes run east to west, are hard par 4s with fast, elevated greens with trouble if you run off, so yeah.... It's a tough course! As someone getting back to the game and struggling to break 90 even when scoring 7 pars the other day, I'd say it is a difficult challenge! The rough is, well, rough. 40mph westerlies happen most weeks on the island. It's a lovely course though.
