With all the improvements that have been made to golf equipment over the recent years meaning we are all hitting the ball much further and straighter, what changes have your local club made to the lengthen your course ?
If any ?

agreed, h/cap averages hasnt got better, maybe worse in fact. Lenght has increased on drivers but overall not by much.
Balls have improved significantly though

Off the tips I think ours nudges 7000 yards (6250mts) It has increased significantly since the redone the course and from what I have been told it used to play an awful lot shorter, don't know exact yardages though.

I was thinking about this the other day and had a look as we went round.
I'm not sure we can lengthen many, if any, holes on the course.
One thing I like about Aylesbury Park is that, when you're on a tee or a green, you're very, very unlikely to get a stray ball coming anywhere near you. Greens are well away from tees - not so far that it's a route-march to get there but it takes a really wild shot to reach.
Some courses, like Weston Turville that I played with Fragger a couple of weeks ago and is 2 par 5's from my house, has so many instances where a slightly over hit approach lands your ball on the next tee.

There are a couple of holes that could be lengthened but it would bring tees and greens too close together.

The average par 4 on our course is 388 yds with the longest being 432, (qty 9). The par 3's average 168, (qty 5).
The par 5's average 504yds, (qty 4).

There are many hazards, the greens all slope and the majority of visitors struggle to play to to within 5 shots of their handicap.

It isn't an excessively long course however it is difficult enough without making it any harder by making it longer.

IMO too many clubs are looking at lengthening their courses when the majority of golfers would like to see their courses improved by having better greens and fairways with bunkers and water hazards strategically placed to improve course management skills which is the one aspect of the game that lets so many players down.

I've only been at ours 3 years and the only thing that's changed in that time is the 4th tee (white) has been moved back around 30yds.

Really, at over 6,600 yards I don't think it needs lengthening, especially as most of the shorter holes have enough danger to up the average scores on them.

The trouble with lengthening courses to stop the low guys ripping it up, is that it can make it a slog for the higher handicappers.

we have put a forward/elevated tee in on the 644 up hill, dogleg, water hazards either side, par 5 --- for some reason the seniors prefer it

May well be playing there against your Vets on 6th June.

TBH, it doesn't really matter if we are off the whites or yellows. It's still only driver, 3 wood, 3 wood, long pitch and a putt for par.

Moves are afoot to lengthen our course by between 100 and 200 yards, apparently to get the SSS up one to match the par at 72.

A new competition tee box is slowly appearing on the 18th which, while not adding yards, will increase the difficulty of the tee shot immeasurably, a humongous tree will be straight in front at about 150 yards......gulp!

vets play of whites - seniors play off yellows (don't ask me why!) - the good news is that it's a seniors match that day. May well play in it.

edit - can't play; probably away that week

My course is VERY short, and is par 65

We just today played a home match against a team from a 6600 yard course. We beat them 5-1.

Length doesnt mean anything

Nothing. It hasn't had to. The rough at my place is very penal and we're talking lucky to find it time in places let alone move it. Most of the holes have at least one area like this and to be honest they aren't too far offline (maybe 10-15 yards of semi before the big stuff). Driving is a premium and even if you are hitting mid irons into some greens there are areas you can't miss

Too many. The bar stewards.

If I find another tee moved back, I think I'll just up and go play somewhere else.
