Strange rules at golf courses

I asked the question to the pro and I said that when the course is quiet and no one is behind me I might fire another into the green if I didnt hit my 1st properly. He said to watch out as the club is hot on the rule and will be up infront of the committee if I'm spotted.
So are you not allowed to declare the first ball "unplayable" and play another? :D

Yeah you can play another ball like that, it's just a ruling about practising on the course that's all.
Yeah but what I mean is that if you hit a shot you're not happy with, you could technically declare the ball unplayable and play another from the same place. What's the difference between that and "practice"?

Thing is, if the right people with the money to do it got in there it could be a genuinely decent track.

I think the desire to build the airport and then a hotel will consign it to being, a 9 hole track for hotel guests, in the end.

I see where your going with that but your then declaring a ball unplayable when it's 150yards away. It would have to go into a big bush or something to declare unplayable. It's a great call from 150yards... Might try that one! :)

Its a good job that they don't have silly rules at Machrihanish Dunes then or I'd be barred before our trip in March!

I think I hit about 24 balls into the 17th green trying to get the huge slope at the back and bring it back to the flag Augusta style, sadly or thankfully I ran out of balls or I'd still be there!

Anyway Grumps, name and shame the establishment!

I think its Dumfries and County that have a short opening par 4 which is drivable however they have a local rule in place forbidding you to hit woods in case you put your ball into the gardens lining the right hand side of the course!

Bloody committees!

There's nothing in the rules to stop you declaring a ball unplayable in the middle of the fairway if you want to. :p

If you hit a drive over the trees, and into the houses on our first hole, you have to sign the naughty book in the secretary's office.

I have never had to do it, honest, probably because i can't hit it that far. :D

Mate i play with lives in one of the houses, and very rarely needs to buy any balls ;)
