And what about the thousands of tournaments you don't see ?

The crowds in the PGA Tour are very close to the players - right behind the players and all around them - that's a fact seen each week.

I've stood at Wentworth behind the players on the tee, and literally, just a few feet away on dozens of occasions. I've done the same at other tour and Open venues. I remember standing just about 8foot away from Tiger at the Grove once as he tee'd off but was beside him. It's quite normal to be really close to the players and caddies on the tees.

As have I - thought it was that simple and that clear to see from pictures as well as telly pics.
 
Paddy - yes the players don't have crowds behind them at every event and on every tee - no one has stated they do.

But they do have them right behind them at a great deal amount of events - I have witnessed it and others have. When a player going off line he will normally have a crowd right behind him also when trying to play back into the fairway etc.

If you want to deny this every happens then no problems :thup:

indeed and all Ihave said is we are kept back far enough not to be a distraction. getting close to drives that come over the ropes is the best part of watching as thats as close as you can get.
 
The whole point is that the players don't play until they are happy to. They may have the spectators moved back further.....the marshalls will do this if requested, it may be that they just ask them to keep still and get on with it. It's down to the individual player. The only place this can't happen is on tees but with the boards around them movement is not as much of an issue as it's people moving their feet that are the biggest distraction so although they may be just a few yards behind, in terms of the players peripheral vision they can't be seen. The biggest problem there is usually shadows. In terms of OP, then the same applies, if you are asked to move, you should, if you don't then you are breaching etiquette only but repeated infringements would result in action by the committee.
 
Yet another thread where needless tit for tat arguing results in it being locked. Couple of guys need to start thinking about the posting style they use before infractions start getting handed out.
