Following on from the fast/slow green thread.

At what time of day and under what conditions are your stimp meter readings usually taken?

At our club they are taken after greens are cut and rolled usually fairly early in the day. My group start late morning so by then end of the round they are nowhere near the same condition. (the rolled bent grass is usually sticking up a bit by then).

I can only ever remember seeing the reading on display at one club

Only place I have seen a reading is East Sussex National about 20 years ago. Didn't mean a thing to me at the time, but from memory is was about 7. Would have made more sense if they had just put 'bloody slow'

Pretty sure there was a sign up at the Grove when we went to trial PowerPlay...can't remember what it was..
Only time I've ever seen/noticed one.
That implies that it's not often done
I also think that it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to the majority of golfers

yeah i saw it at dunstable a.few years back. it was 9 iirc

What's with the 'new holes' thing, they make no difference to a stimp reading...

Stimps are done after the greens have been mown and should really be done when dry (dew will effect the reading) the reading should be taken on the flattest most level part of the green, 3 balls should be rolled and the distances added together then divided by 3 to get your average reading...
