Steve williams again

How the feck can the intent be worthless. So, if somebody says something completely innocent, but some moron takes offence, then the moron is right? The intent is just as valid as the way it is received. A person can still apologise for the fact that it was taken (incorrectly) as an insult, but they are apologising for the fact that there was a possible mis interpretation, not the original comment.
Sorry stevie, but your post is ridiculous.

bluewolf - given that I have previously worked in a EO position and am professionally qualified in that area I can assure you that you are wrong, the fact that you feel it ridiculous doesn't make you right unfortunately.

Let me give you another example, I'm off to a football match this afternoon, whilst there should i refer to the head of someones religion as being a baldy ex-nazi I leave myself open to ejection from the ground, possible life ban from the ground and potentially arrest. Whether or not I actually mean, whether or not the person i make the remark to is offended and regardless of whether i immediately apoligise or not.

Or reading from the transcript of his "speech". Oh, and why is name calling on the Internet somehow acceptable? If you want to insult me, then wait til you meet me. I'll quite happily wait.

Not insulting you but if you take it that way fair enough. The point I was making was how many times can be do this this and brush it off as a joke?

He said, "My aim was to shove it right up that black --------.”

:/

How many times has he done it. I still say that if this was any other caddy, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. SW is a fairly divisive character who I personally don't like, but sometimes we are too quick to take offence. And calling for his livelihood to be taken away is unfair.

It was a daft and silly thing to say by Willams but he does have a previous record of being a bit loud and mouthy.

The racist issue: he referred to TW having a "black a****e". If TW was white, would Williams have said he had a "white a******e" ? No, he wouldn't because that is the perceived norm, he would just have said "a******e". So, for that reason it is a racist comment and he is guilty as charged.

If the transcript is correct he didn't say "his" he said "that".

The first implies posession, i.e. his hat or his club.
The second can be taken as implying the person, i.e. that golfer or that plonker.

From Steve's past behaviour I'd say that he was using it personally and using the phrase to describe Woods.
Competely out of order and he should get the maximum penalty.

To me the man is nothing more than a big bully, he never seemed happier than when he was "protecting" TW from fans and the media, pushing people out the way and grabbing cameras etc.

How can you even feel sorry for a guy that probably has more money than many touring professionals? Im sure caddying is not his sole income.
SS2 has hit the nail on the head...there was no reason whatsoever to bring the color of his skin into his statement.

Didn't realise SW would still be this bitter after all this time. Just let it go man. Its OVER!

Scott sitting 3rd in WGC Shanghai event, not surprised he wants to keep SW, he may be a bit of an egotistical thug but he clearly knows how to caddy!
As for the racist thing, I don't believe he's remotely racist, I think he is angry at Tiger. He should not have used the black adjective but he's an Antipodean, not known for their tact or political correctness. I dare say he had a few sherberts in him too.
Not condoning what he said but I see it as a crass vengeful comment, not because he is anti-black.
Needs to reign it in a bit though but he was put on the spot.

.

on the spot ???

he was collecting an award (a piss take) from the last time he stuck his foot in his mouth after scott won his first tournie with him as caddy. is that really on the spot ?? poor guy!

The fact he brought skin colour into it at all makes it a racist comment. What relevance did it have other than to imply some sort of negative connotations?

OK technically it is a racist comment, all some people are saying is that not everyone is perfectly schooled in knowing what can and cant be said, none of us are perfect, we all say stupid things from time to time.
Eg in some places you cannot ask for a white coffee or a black coffee, that is one I would walk straight into.
Whilst it can be construed as a racist comment, I sincerely doubt that someone who worked the bag of Tiger for x number of years is actually racist.
There is a difference between making a stupid comment and actually hating people of other races/ethnicities etc.

I was trying to say that & my connection dropped . i do not like steve williams , never have that hasnt changed , how could you think a man that has worked for & be friended tiger for all those years possibly be a racist , a knob , a clown & all the rest definatly , a racist ? probably not ..

Can't disagree with that. At the end of the day, Scott is his employer so it's up to him what happens but if he gets away keeping his job he can count himself a lucky man and maybe, hopefully he'll remember from now on that he carries the clubs and his place is firmly out of the limelight. He may be famous in NZ for his motor racing or whatever he does/did but in the world of golf, he is effectively nothing and should behave in that manner

I think William has yet again proved himself to be devoid of class and to a large degree any kind of funsctioning mental capacity. He had the greatest caddy gig in golf, and then got lucky to find Scott coming back into form as a replacement and yet he courts controversy wherever he goes. The Warren Barton of golf perhaps.

I think as the season is rolling to a close Scott will read him the riot act, let the winter break come in and the dust to settle and see what happens next year. Personally I think Williams is a ticking time bomb and its only a matter of time before he goofs again and I'd love to see him out on his white ***

If Adam Scott had any balls he would sack him straight away. But I suppose like all the other greedy players all he wants is a bigger slice of the pie. Steve Williams is and has been a liabilit, he only got to where he is by hanging on to tiger. Hope he fades away into obscurity.

Why would you say that, Adam has done well since Steve has taken his bag, what has Tiger done since Steve left. SFA that is what.

Well done Steve, you might have not been so personal mind but you got me vote......
