Reported that Williams at a function in New Zealand made the following comment about Mickelson:
Williams branded the world No3 " a p***k", and added, "I don't particularly like the guy [Mickelson]. He pays me no respect at all and hence I don't pay him any respect. It's no secret we don't get along either."

Who does Williams think he is--he is a caddie who carries the bag of the best golfer in the world or does Williams think he is the MAN.

At least Mickelson has some class as per his retort:
"After seeing Steve Williams' comments all I could think of was how lucky I am to have a class act like Bones (caddie, Jim Mackay) on my bag and representing me."

Is it time for Williams to be shown the door?

Methinks his head is enlarging somewhat. If these comments are true then the bloke's an idiot.

Why jeapordise the best bag in the world for a few cheap jibes. OK I don't really like Mickleson either but Williams is, as you say, only a Caddie. Maybe caddies are having too much influence these days.

Apparently the Reports about Steve Williams were correct. Although apparently he hadn't actually said the comment to a reporter. Thing is Steve Williams as with most New Zealanders & Austrailians tend not to mix their words & call things as they see them. I certainly don't condone what Steve williams says, even if he is right about PHil Mickleson being a PhilMick ;-)

Here's an article about the comments
http://www.golfuncut.com/golfvideosblog.html

Steves comments could land him in sticky water with Tiger, simply because although they might both dislike Phil Mickleson, its not for the caddy to make comments like that, whether or not on the players behalf.

It has been roumoured some time ago that Steve Williams & Tiger might be parting ways anyhow, though this could hurry things on significatly if Steve is not careful & he might actually find trying to get another bag very difficult, no matter how good a bag man he is.

If I was Tiger then I would have a few stern words with Williams, I know that Phil and Tiger don't see eye to eye all the time, but what your caddie does on and off the course is a representation of the you. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that Tiger is a bad role model, he is proberly one of the best, but no caddie's job is secure and for Williams to be saying this makes me think that he is a proper melon. :D

Bit unprofessional of Williams really. It's the kind of thing he might have got away with after he had retired or whatever, but not sure if it was wise to say it now. Although from reading it, i don't think Williams ever imagined we'd be reading those quotes.

I did laugh at the story from the US Open though...

... The Guardian has reported a story Williams told about this year's US Open at Torrey Pines, where Woods and Mickelson were paired together.

The two players were walking down the 17th fairway when, according to Williams, someone shouted "Phil" in Mickelson's direction. The world No 2 did not respond until the fan shouted, "Hey, Mr Mickelson." When Mickelson turned and waved, the fan yelled out "Nice tits". The crowd erupted in laughter; Mickelson went double bogey, bogey and his chances of winning the tournament disappeared.

Spit_Nolan-- Mickelson denied this alleged story took place heres his reported response:
Mickelson also said a "joke" told by Williams in which the player was heckled by a fan over his weight during this year's US Open at Torrey Pines was "a total fabrication".

"It is based on an incident on the 17th hole during a practice round of the US Open at Bethpage in 2002 that involved a European Tour player. The story has been retold often but Woods and Williams were not present at that incident," he said.

Apologies, i didn't read the Mickelson response. I have a funny feeling who the European Tour player in question may have been...

Reading the article, Williams appears more of fool than ever. "I visit a lot of golf clubs and do a lot of speaking for charity". "You're at a charity event and you have a bit of fun."

Charity event = publicity for charity = press coverage

doh!

What a plonker, but its got him good publicity. Imaging him and Sabbatini working together, would be the most hated team in golf.

What the hell is it with some of these caddies?
They carry a bag for a few years and all of a sudden they are trying to upstage the pros! Everyone of the pros could get along with any caddy with reasonable knowledge of the game/courses and players, these caddies make a fortune in some cases and get a lifestyle second to few, they should show a little more humility and respect, towards those who are responsible for all caddies benefits and lifestyle.

Cheeky T**t!.

I can think of a worse pairing. Williams and JB Holmes.

I think it is a case of a man getting way above himself. Yes he does a good job wit Woods (or he wouldn't have kept his job for so long) but Tiger is a pretty canny user of the media and he won't like the reflected negative publicity. It seems from epole I know both in the US and in NZ that Williams is getting more and more of a reputation.

I heard a rumour (didn't get reported in the press but witnessed by someone I believe 100%) that Williams turned up in LA recently at some sports award event and did the whole "don't you kow who I am" routine when refused entry.

I am also led to beleive that Mickleson and Woods have sorted some of their differences out now and although they will never be big buddies at least have more of an idea where each is coming from.

What a knob this bloke Williams must be! He's only a caddy, after all. Mickelson should challenge the clown to a game.

I remember Team Tiger getting shot of Fluff Cowan when he gave an interview years ago. They didn't like him building his part up so got shot. Perhaps Williams cant get out his contract with Woods and has lost a few bob in earnings so he wants sacked so he can move on to his next bag.
