This is good, top bloke and everyone likes him. You would think that's shut the door on Donald ever getting it now

Would love to know if Mickelson's little outburst turned the tables for him

Why? He could get it in the States in '25

I'd have thought this as well. He is someone who made the US his home and so getting a US leg makes more sense for him.

I'm pleased for Stenson. I like him as a player, a person and it is good that players across the continent get the chance for captaincy.

Just think Poulter will do it in New York and then McDowell/Westwood in Ireland and then you're into Garcia, Rose etc

What's the going rate for RC captaincy these days, it used to be a mil but I guess it's gone up in recent years

The 2025 Ryder Cup .... at Bethpage .... in New York .... with those fans .... and Poulter potentially as European Captain. Jesus wept.

He won't have the players at his disposal to win it, but I wish him well, he's a very likeable guy and has a great sense of humour, so even if the team struggle, I'm sure he'll keep their spirits high.

Poulter is exactly the right man for Bethpage. Will repay the "classy" American fans everything they dish out and some! It's no place for shrinking violets.

Unless there are half a dozen Europeans suddenly going to become world-beaters we don't know about there is not the pure golf firepower to match the Americans over the next few years.. So, take an skipper, who is the Ryder Cup personified and who might just have the X- factor and see where that takes us.

Really solid appointment. We just need a solid team of 12 playing well as we head into the event. Hopefully the ET will do what they did in Paris and get all potential players to play the course and get to know it

I think we can hope for about 5 at best but we'll see!

Phil Price is a member at our place. I once asked him what difference did rhe captain make.

He said, "More than you'd think!"

Managed to sit in on a press only round table at the Forest of Arden just after the Paris win. Was only supposed to be a ten minute Q&A but they couldn't stop them talking. Only got wrapped up as Woosnam was due on the tee in the Farmfoods Senior Open

Stenson has a mountain to climb - the 12 Americans from last year will all still be in or very close to their primes, and there are another maybe 6 or 8 hot on their heels (Zalatoris, Burns, Horschel, Homa, Wolff etc). Europe meanwhile have to move on a core group of stalwarts who are now past their peaks, but have a generation coming through who will probably not be fully ready until Bethpage - the Hojgaards, Migliozzi, McIntyre.

Yes, does look like Europe is set to struggle for a few years given the strength of the US line up, but you never know.

There are a few quality European players, but the strength in depth isn't there.
