Question for those who have used both. Which do you prefer? Is there much difference between the two types?

I play both. The graphite is less likely to vibrate up your elbows and shoulders. I think it also offers more flight options especially if you’re a low flight hitter. They also offer weight benefits because they can get very light helping you to maintain speed.
However be careful because there is an issue with timing due to swingweight / feel .. you can lose the head and sync/ timing goes.

I think the general consensus is to not drop more than 20g in weight from the steel shaft to the graphite unless you have the time to get the feel back...
I went from KBS Tour - 120 stiff to Recoil 95 stiff...OK, a touch more than 20g but I didn't lose timing.
I had to switch due to tendon issues in both elbows.
The graphite has helped enormously and I'm now so settled in graphite that, should my elbows recover sufficiently, I doubt I would return to steel.
Now in Recoil 95 Regular and loving them
Don't get hung up on graphite shafts being for the oldies....if they work, they work.

Irons
I played graphite successfully for about 15 years. When the speed checking sims came out it was pointed out my iron speed had gone down to about 68MPH.
With the advent of of lightweight steel shafts I made the switch back to steel.

My graphite shafted irons still get the occasional run out but I get too hooky with them

My original switch was from TTDG R300 to Stiff ascending weight and descending kick point graphite , something which could be achieved with graphite back then but not steel shafts.

Graphite first appeared in the 70s, mostly on drivers.
I have a Peter Broadbent driver with a graphite shaft but never seem to hit it well.
