im looking at a couple of hybrids and was wondering whats the difference in performance. would i notice a difference. looking for a quick answer as my credit card is burning a hole on my couch. as i surf the net. just bought 3 dozen wilson staff tour balls for 50 pounds.

Bigslice....
I would catch the fire extinguisher if i were you......Dont buy anything until you've hit them.....Ive never hit a steel shafted hybrid so i cant advise but there's nothing wrong with the graphite ones provided the shaft suits your swing.

ive already got a 20 degree graphite hybrid. cost less than 20 pound, but ive seen ones on tinternet at either 40 for steel or 50 graphite. im looking to replace my 4 iron with 23. but dont know what shaft. ive heard that with graphite will hit it further and steel slightly less.

If the steel shaft matches your iron shafts then it will feel more like an iron - it is a 4 iron replacement after all. Not much point in having a 4iron hybrid with a graphite shaft in - an inch longer and lighter so you hit it further and it plays more like a 3 iron.

cheers, ;) i just needed some re-assurance. i should always go with gut feeling. ehh if i go for 4 hybrid steel i guess the 3 hybrid should be steel aswell. if so my bag is getting 2 new mizzys!

Both my hybrids are graphite, similar to my woods.

I have a mid 80's mph driver swing, with a regular Graffaloy Prolaunch graphite shaft, so my 3H has the same shaft.

The 4H I picked up coz it was an exdemo, and feels good for a £20 club.

My irons have True Temper flippy mcwhippy shafts, or something.

If you have a graphite shafted wood, I'd be inclined to consider the grahite shafts. They tend to make life easier.

If you don't want life to be easier, then don't buy a hybrid, buy a 3I and 4I and swear a lot.

Graphite will go further, and probably higher than steel. If you are filling a gap in your bag, you should really try it out before you buy it.
I like steel in my hybrid, as it is a 3i, and I wnated it to behave like a 3i.
To this end, I bought one which is more difficult to hit too, just like a 3i.

If you're going to use it for tee shots on par 4's then graphite will give you some more distance, if you want a pure 3 or 4 iron replacement to go an exact distance then steel may be a better option. I've owned both but find the graphite shafted ones a bit more forgiving and less work.

When I bought my i15 hybrid I was advised that if I were going to play it like an iron, go with steel (as that's what I have in my irons anyway) but if I were going to use it more like a wood, go for graphite ('cos that's what I have in my woods!)
Seemed to make sense to me.

I still can't hit the fecking thing
