As an alternative on countback why not start on hole index 1 instead of hole 18. This will favour the player who played best on the hardest holes. Just a thought.

Leaving aside the point that the SI doesn't necessarily indicate the difficulty of holes on a course (it really doesn't, have a look on t'internet), I quite like that idea.

Didn't need to, how does countback work, gross or net? Same question, same answer.

I like stableford, if you blob a hole you really have cut your chances just like a 1 pointer does. The thing about medal is that as mentioned once you have a couple of bad hole (hcp depending) its game over and it gets boring.

I play medals, as if they were a stableford. I don't worry about one or two bad holes, just the overall points. Had two handicap cuts, both with a nine on the card. The nines were both at the beginning, and in the old days would have ruined the rest of the round. Not going to win anything but always good to get cut.

My golf may not be great, but mentally on the course i'm not too bad.When i have had a good score going, i have been able to hold on to it, and not worried about any last minute disasters.
