St Andrews accommodation

Wow. got the mail today that we have tee times on the New and Old in April, so need to get planning. Long way from the south coast!

Looking for cheap and cheerful accommodation for two nights for a group of 8 of us - what would you guys recommend I check out?

Can't get too excited til I get the planning done and convince people they really did say yes, so cough up the cash!

No doubt I'll be back with more questions!

2002, 6 of us stayed at Edenside house b&b 2.5miles outside of St Andrews, great views over the Estuary, and accommodation was great plus the breakfasts were fantastic. Only draw back was you either drove in to St. Andrews or taxi. But if that doesn't bother you then I recommend there.

be interested to keep an eye on this one, I have similar tee times in july (thurs/fri) and have been starting to plan. Currently thinking of Edinburgh premier inn weds night before and then b n b in st Andrews.

2 of us went to St.Andrews in September last year for a NAPGC event on the Eden course. This is where we stayed. It cost £90 for 2 nights (Sat and Sun) , twin room sharing with a lovely breakfast included both days. Only 20 mins from the course.

If staying in Dundee, there is a Premier Inn in the city cente next to the river which would be better if sampling the night life. Also a Holiday Inn Express, or try the Apex Hotel for deals. For a bit more luxury there is a new Malmaison opening soon.

Don't even think about staying anywhere else but in the town of St Andrews.

Crass stupidity to stay anywhere else IMO. 2 nights will set you back around £90 to £100 for b&b (all the b&b's are priced pretty much the same in town) but staying in town let's you soak up the unique atmosphere to town has.

Murray Park has umpteen b&b's to stay in and is a 2 minute walk from the 18th green and seconds away from the boozers and there are some crackers!

I'd agree with staying in the town and being able to wander about when not golfing rather than traveling to and fro the town.

If this is your first visit then you'll be kicking yourself for not making the trip sooner.

Been going to St A for the last 40 years, mostly every year, first visit this year is end of March.

Agree, why plan to play St Andrews then be 20min away!!!! The town is something special, and to not be anywhere near it is daft. If it's your first time playing there, then stay there, you'll regret it if you don't.

Being a native of Dundee I love my city and it's a decent place for a night out - but I'm with those who say if you are playing in St Andrews then stay there too - it's a very special wee toon.

If you are playing the Old Course second day then make sure you go to watch people hitting approaches and putting on the 18th the evening before - will get your nerves going nicely

Stayed in Greyfriars Hotel last weekend, brilliant. Have also used the Riverview Guest House which is only a 5 min journey from the town in a cab. Both ideal.

I definately agree with the others who've said You've got to stay in the town. It's just a great place that oozes Character, charm and most importantly Golf. You'd definately regret staying anywhere else.

Totally agree. Why save a few quid that you probably lose in petrol anyway. St Andrews is a wonderful place to stay, with a real buzz to it. Love the place, unique atmosphere, and can't wait to go back.

I did drive through Dundee on the way to Carnoustie, and must admit from what I saw it didn't seem that attractive. Apologies to all those that live there.
