Well we just about managed it. teed off bang on 5pm as a three ball which turned into a 2 ball after 9.

Chuffed to bits, hopefully this is the first of many games after work. Coming down 18 was fun as it was pretty dark. Could not have fitted another hole in.

Anybody else done 18 this week after 5?

my game was rubbish tho lol but managed to pull it back (god knows how)

was 4 down at the turn, halved em all to 14 then won 14,15,16 and 17 and halved the last to finish all square :D

Hit the practice ground tonight. Not working on anything in particular but just wanted to hit a few balls off grass as opposed to a range mat. Some good stuff (few bad ones) and a positive vibe coming home. Tempo (too quick) is the biggest issue. The ball striking is fine especially when I give myself that fraction of a second longer between going back and the transition into the downswing. Sadly it is too quick too often. Other than that very happy. Once I get my chipping lesson Saturday afternoon I should be quite content with my general state of play.

It was pretty dark by 7.15 so you must have flown round to play 18

Come off 18 at 7.50, was pretty dark. just had to trust the yardage.

I'm same as you Homer, tempo is probably the biggest factor in my game. When i've got it i play well. When its off I can shoot it all over the shop.

9 holes and I sucked!

After three rounds in the low 80s in a row I was expecting to go out and shoot the lights out but I just could not get the putter going. Cue excuses;

The greens are bobbly as hell ATM

I forgot my glove

I had been up since 5 as I had a conference at 9am with a long drive to and from it.

I was wearing the wrong underware

The sky was the wrong colour

Practised for about 3 hours after school. Did the pelz short game test. Worked on my hips for an hour, then 30 minutes on 50 yard pitches which were highlighted as my weakest area in pelz short game test. Then 30 minutes putting. A nice evening from 6 o clock after the rain had stopped.

Is why this guy is so good.

Well done on the commitment.

Do not ever get a girlfriend, your handicap will go to 20.1

I wanted to stay on after I had the bad 9 to work on the things I was doing wrong but I felt guilty about staying out when I knew I had to go home and do some chores and cook dinner for the wife!

Maybe Friday I will spend all night there.. that is the current plan as the wife is working!

Played about 14 holes and hit the ball like a dream. Working on a couple of tweaks and so far the results are very promising - please may it last until the medal on Sunday. :D

Will start playing every morning before work next week. Usually get an 18 in teeing off around 6.30 and then quick shower and in the office by 9.30. Six months of golf every day. Love it. Been doing it since I stopped commuting to London in 1997.

Gonna start doing this myself this year mate... just a thought, how do you feel this kind of playing practice compares to going down the range a couple of times a week?
Do you think your scores have come down because of it?

I'm hoping more time on the course gets me h/c down this year

Last night of 6 a side this evening so from next Wednesday we'll have a roll up with the pro shop lads and go out bang on 6 o'clock. Get an hour's practice in beforehand and then should be good for at least 12 holes before dark.

I thought that was you cutting a lonely figure on the range as I left. Went down at 4 and played 14 holes, just to make sure the weekend wasn't a fluke and I'm pleased to say it wasn't.

I could easily have got 18 in but I was hungry. I'vw got 2 weeks in Florida from Sunday and when I get back it will be well and truely golf o'clock after work.

I'd like to get out in the mornings too but I'm not sure I'll be able to do that and get to Reigate for work but I will probably give it a go and see how I go.

Playing regularly is definately better than the range and is the main reason I moved to Royal Ascot.
This is the 1st year I've been able to play every week without having to worry about 5 hour rounds and I'm a better player as a result. The last 3 weeks I've really seen the benefit and I'm convinced now more than ever that I will get to single figures this season.

Yep, managed 18 myself last night. :D

Tee'd off at about 5:20, finished at 7:45 and there was still a bit of light left.

Played to my handicap, even with an awful 7 on an easy par 3 :(

Never really made a putt either. Just a good steady round.

Roll on Saturday, first comp of the season. :D

Anybody else done 18 this week after 5?

Did 18 last Thursday (before clocks moved) teeing of just after 4pm so comparatively would have been 5pm now.

Two of us played with no hold ups.

Again 18th was dark and lucky I was hitting well. Shot 82 my second best round too so maybe running round in the dark should be my plan from now on!

Do both! I will stop at the range once or twice a week after work and I have an astroturf putting green at the back of my house. Yes it improves my game but it's all for fun whatever.

Well it's either that or spend time with the family ...

Planned on 18 last night but 2 of the holes were closed due an unexploded WW2 bomb on the beach ! Ended up packing in after 14 as it started raining and I didn't have any wet gear with me.

Do you get a free drop for that?

Stone GC where I used to play had a bomb crater down the left side of the 7th. was about 30ft deep and 80ft wide. Was a bugger to get out of.

Aparrently its from when Jerry dropped unused bombs to lighten the load home.

We also have a bomb crater - on the right hand side of our 14th fairway - about 50 yards from the green. It's very deep and the fairway is very steep so it's a nightmare to get out of.

Apparently it can be seen from space - having never been I can't confirm...

The May entry sheets are available if you want to get your name down before you go. If not let me know and I'll get you in on Saturday if you don't play
