Spring lawn weed and feed

I mentioned this to Bro in law when I said I am moss killing and then scarifying. He asked me to get some moss kill from TESCO (£7.50) whilst I picked mine up. I told him to wait til it is dry when scarifying. I have done it before when it has been really wet, massive mistake. Ripped up loads of healthy grass, everything is twice as heavy. Scarifier getting clogged up with wet moss and grass.
I have a Battery Bosch lawnmower. When I have scarified, I go over it afterwards with the mower as it help suck up any left over grass and moss that has not been picked up and dried on the lawn.
If you plan to scarify make sure the ground is dry. Otherwise there is a danger the grass roots may be torn out. Beforehand cut it very low for that cut only. Raise it afterwards and gradually reduce.

Just scarified my lawn for the second time this year, and I can’t believe the amount of moss and thatch I’m getting out of it. But the results are starting to show. And that’s before I’ve put any treatment on it.

Aeration is the next item on the agenda. Got some of those ludicrous aeration shoes on order from Amazon 😳

I've just got this image of you plodding up and down your lawn.
Excuse the pun! 😎🤣

My moss killer has been down a week and I am surprised how little moss it is showing. Am torn between Scarifying on Sunday or Wednesday as it looks like it could be dry for a few days.

Not a lawn question.. but sun is out.. is it ok to cut the top of the laurel hedges this weekend or too early ?

Laurel can be pruned at pretty well any time except when it is very frosty - you may get a bit of 'frost burn'.
If frost is not forecast - go for it.

Woke up this morning.. car has frost on it.. followed by glorious sun shine (but cold)… the rest of the weeks low is like -1 … in short, might just for a pub lunch

If you have the facility it would be better if you hollow tined every 2nd or 3rd year.
I’ve come close to buying a tining fork a couple of times, but am going to hire a machine to make life easier.

I need the overnight temps to pick up before I start Spring maintenance.

Simplifying things for me. I want to remove some moss using a scarifier. I haven’t done a mow yet this year. Do I mow before scarifying - or does it not matter. We are not precious about our grass and not bothered about it looking like a croquet lawn…it’s grass - so not hugely interested in doing a great deal of work on it. I’m inclined to mow before scarify so the scarifier doesn’t pull out what grass there is…But if X before Y is better then I’ll do that.

Yes, cut before scarifying.

1) Apply moss killer asap
2) Not sure where you are located but if the ground is still damp, don't scarify yet. It may tear out the roots.
3) Do a first cut with the blades moderately high.
4) A few days later do a very low cut and then scarify but only when the ground is not damp. Apply a feed.
5) Don't mow again until the grass gets to normal summer height.

You shouldn't need a feed & weed until the ravages of scarifying have settled but if the grass is healthy and there only isolated weeds I would simply use a spot weed killer for lawns.

I generally start the year's lawn care with using the rake attachment on the scarifier machine (on a high setting) to pull some of the worse thatch and moss out then get the treatment down and let it work. After that, rake again on a lower setting then cut at high setting before scarifying and possibly over-seeding if needed.

@GreiginFife also...have done a cut. Ground fairly dry. I've got a bag of AllInOne Lawn feed, Weed and Moss Killer - I'll not scarify yet but in maybe a day or 2 (?) will sprinkle that over - or do that straight away? Wait a week or so and then cut again and then scarify.

You'll gather from my question and the above that I'm useless with grass - so grateful for suggestions.
