Depends on what events you meanFair points but the idea of the licence fee was that the BBC could broadcast niche viewing without a worry about audiences.
With the Olympics I love that it is free to sit but I would sell the rights with an obligation to promote and broadcast some of the lesser known events year round that are not shown elsewhere. You want the bug events you have to support the little ones
As example one of the highest played team sport is hockey
And no one broadcasts it
