Nah he just has me on ignore 👍

Latest odds has

Hodgkinson a clear favourite

The Littler and Yee just behind
Never fully understood being allowed to bet on things like this where the public can vote as well as place bets. Surely it would be fairly simple to place bets then manipulate the voting to get the outcome you want?

Think that’s prob relevant on anything where it comes to public voting

Not sure how easy it would be to manipulate etc though

Certainly relevant to other things like Strictly, Celeb, etc.

If gangs can clone cards, steal passwords, etc then they can surely rig a public vote.

They don't need to rig it, just organise a key and loyal demographic. If a key social media person asks their followers to vote for a particular person then that can have a massive effect. People who don't care are suddenly voting for someone. It's so easy to vote by phone, really not tricky to get momentum going.

Cyclist Tadej Pogacar not included as one of the world star nominees?! Only won the Tour de France the Giro and the World Champs; the first to achieve such a feat for nearly 40 years.

He has utterly dominated cycling this year.
What about Cavendish?

Wot? Hold yer horses….No sign in Young SPOTY of a 20yr old amateur female golfer who’s #1 in the women’s amateur golf world; ANWA champion; 10th in the pro Women’s British Open this year, and Curtis Cup winner with the GB&I team? Ah well…Yes I know…Women’s Amateur Golf - yer having a laugh…nobody cares. In fact does anyone outside of golf much care about golf full stop. No matter - she’s SPOTY down my club 👍😍

Quite…I wasn’t being serious about LW but the ‘who cares about golf anyway’ sentiment applies.

That said I don’t have the slightest bit of interest in darts…not since Jocky Wilson anyway 👍…so it’s Hodgkinson for me - a true star and one with personality.

I would estimate that if I walked into a clubhouse on a busy Saturday and gave that description, possibly around 10% of the golfers would know who I was talking about, let alone expecting the general public to have a clue.

Those 6 have had great years (ok, Bellingham flopped for England) but the rest have been top performers. Who would you have included instead?
I didn't say that they hadn't, only that I'd never heard of them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Surely a factor in who wins this award is permeating the general public's consciousness. Luke Littler has certainly done that, because I have heard a lot about him despite the fact I don't watch darts. Whereas Yee and Storey, absolutely no idea - don't recall seeing anything about them in the media. Hodgkinson I vaguely recall is an Olympian but I don't remember which event it was.

She won a gold at short distance jogging.
I love darts, but it's a pub game not a sport. Include darts and you have to include dominoes, fruit machine and contract.
Sport needs a ball. SPOTY needs sport, success and personality.
Joe Root's the closest thing this year.

I can only guess that you get most of your sport news from Sky sports hence why Littler will be all over it

During this year the single event that had the most viewers was Euros Final - 24 mil

The Olympics had on average of 6 mil a day for 16 days straight with the 800m which Hodgkinson won peaking at 10mil

218mil streams and around 37mil in total watched Olympics

Its grabbed the general public’s consciousness if someone ventures outside sky
