Its a bit of a surprise that there is nothing around Cricket.. Back in the 80s, I did see a TV series called Bodyline, loved the whole Jardine-Bradman story.. never saw it again..

i had that series on DVD lent it to a mate and never saw it again ,i thought it was excellant.

forgot about Jerry McGuire
can you count ROLLERBALL.

So many good films, list could carry on fora while but here's my pick.

Chariots Of Fire been mentioned yet? Moneyball, Le Mans, Seve, Senna, The Hustler (and Colour Of Money), Warrior & The Fighter.

American Football has lots of good examples, most already listed but I would add my vote for:

Any Given Sunday
Remember the Titans
We are Marshall
Gridiron Gang

Other sports:
The Fighter
Warrior
Cinderella Man
White men can't jump
Tin Cup
Bagger Vance
Above the Rim
Hoop Dreams (great documentary about high school basketball stars)

Been racking my brains, not much to rack, for a film with Rhys Ifans in it - him out of Notting Hill. The Replacements!!!!!!! And then I spot P Shark had already posted it immediately before my first post. Haven't seen it for ages... worth a watch

Rush is excellent and Grand Prix was a great film (brings home what it was like for the drivers in the 1960s).

I can recommend the documentary film which came out earlier in the year, 'Dark Horse - The Incredible true story of Dream Alliance'. It won the international documentary audience award at the Sundance Film Festival in January. For me it is particularly memorable as I was one of the syndicate who owned the horse and I appear in the archive footage a few times. It should have an airing next year on Channel 4.

Mmm, not watched Seve yet for fear of spoiling the memories. Might need a rethink. "The greatest game ever played," followed by "The legend of Bagger Vance" for me. Another would be "Remember the titans."

Good selection , i go with that

in no particular order

Caddyshack
42
Eight men out
61*
Pride of the Yankees
The Babe
Bad news bears
Bull Durham
North Dallas Forty
Kingpin
Field of Dreams

...and last but not least

A League of their Own - the last film i watched that made me cry during it ( not for Madonna's acting performance might I add) :D

Bull Durham is the most realistic baseball film and the most quoted by players. Field of Dreams makes a hero of someone who was banned from the game. What next, a 2034 film about what a nice guy Pete Rose was???

For Love of the Game has Costner as a pitcher in his final appearance and is a truly superb film even if Steve Psycho Lyons does screw up the commentary.

But for baseball, it starts and ends with Major League. "You may not have noticed, and judging by attendances, you haven't".

Baseketball, by the 2 guys behind SouthPark, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, funny as.

Blackball, starring Paul Kaye (Dennis Pennis)

Goon, starring Seann William Scott.

Youngblood, starring Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze

A League of Their Own, starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis.

The Ringer with Johnny Knoxville is funny, but, the SouthPark episode when Cartman enters the Special Olympics, in a bid to win the prize money is even funnier!
