Is someone able to guess, give an accurate assesssment of what the Pro's receive for Sponsorship.

Example what would a pro receive for his hat sponsorship as opposed to all the advertising on his shirt.

Realise it is down to the individual i.e. comparing Tiger with someone who is ranked say 150 on The European Tour but if anyone has any specific/ approximate figures I feel it would be interesting

Its rumoured Harringtons hat deal with FTI is $12M for 3/4 years.

His original sponsors in 1996 paid £30K for a year but this went upto £100K for 1997 after he won the Spanish Open in 1996. However he allowed his then current sponsors the same original deal for 1997, even if they were not signed up for 1997. Any additional sponsors were hit for the higher amount.

Kin ell

So if Tiger has actually won $80,000,000 whilst actually playing, I assumed he'd double that with sponsorship.

But your saying he'd get nearer 5x as much, if not more.

So, excluding any increase in his investments he'd be worth in excess of $500,000,000

Say it ain't so

I think it depends on the player but most guys are on a pretty good deal especially for shirts and hats. I think I heard that even the 125th on the list can still get £5-20k per logo because it gets seen during the first two rounds. There are usually performance tie ins too. Might be one for the GM team to investigate

I'm surprised any big companies waste their money sponsoring Pro sportsmen/women....

The equipment guys, yes, of course, total sense.

As for the rest...I don't know, but maybe if 100 million people around the world see your logo and that generates 10 new big business accounts, then it's worth it.....

I'm not a businessman, I don't know. Clearly if 90% of the non-golf logos mean nothing to me, then I'm either a) not in their sights or b) they have a c*** idea of what makes folk buy products/services.....

Anyone know who.t.f. FTI are?

As far as I know they are an economic consultancy company / general consultants, in various fields. I read about them when Padraig signed a deal with them fairly recently. I can't remember much else, sorry.

so if the vast majority watching golf have no idea who or what the logos represent then they can only be preaching to the converted who may not even watch golf. all a bit pointless.
I hardly even noticed the logos and when I did it took a while to work out the V red on Tigers cap - and that was on show for most of the programme!

I had no idea until a google search revealled...

FTI Consulting, Inc. is a global business advisory firm dedicated to helping organizations protect and enhance enterprise value in an increasingly complex legal, regulatory and economic environment. With more than 3,000 employees located in most major business centers in the world, we work closely with clients every day to anticipate, illuminate, and overcome complex business challenges in areas such as investigations, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory issues, reputation management and restructuring

So I guess I'm still none the wiser...

The logo on the shirt is generally immaterial to the sponsor, although it obviously helps, most sponsors get a number of 'days' with their man to do with what they want (ooer missus) ie company golf day, dinner, private game, clinic....Tiger does his Amex golf in the park thing, Harrington did an Irish Bank indoor clinic for about 500 people a few years ago and its probably a good tax fiddle too....

It wouldn't suprise me if FTI were something to do with McManus and/or Desmond...as they love having the 'boys' on call for a game

A major golfing brand a few years ago were paying £15K to play the driver, wear the hat and shoes for the Tour boys - some players were carrying 2 drivers in the bag and not using one so thet got their money but used a driver they liked!!! Money is a lot tighter on Tour now - most manufacturers have deals tied into world ranking points so the better you do the more money you get....
