Played a few different courses over the last few weeks and pretty every one the practice green was faster than the course greens. My own club is the same, in fact i rarely have a putt on it before going out as its so much faster and our greens are pretty fast anyway.

anyone elses course like this?

This would mean the green keepers would have to cut all the greens as normal, then adjust the height of the blades to cut the practice green and then adjust them back again.
I cant see them doing that.
Unless the practice green gets less sun during the day?

Ours is pretty similar so I use it before each round.
Blackmoor's was very slow the first time I played there. So much so that Rich actually suggested we don't use it..

I think that ours is fairly similar to the greens on the course.

Played Rushcliffe last week and the practice green was fast, but on course they were slow. This could be because the practice green was cut just before I used it though.

This is my experience at most courses as well. I use the practice green to practice my stroke, not gauge the speed of the greens on the course.

Yes, me too.

I get the speed of the greens from playing the course and my judgement of the conditions.

Its important to get my stroke warmed up so I can take full advantage of those judgements.

so how do you get the pace of the first green if you are first to putt???????

fortunately ours is about as slow as the greens on the course are :)

Ours is exactly the same as all the others. Even our chipping green is the same. All maintained to the same level. They were all top dressed and tined last week, but still putted great yesterday during our annual breast cancer charity day.

Our original practice green is as near as damn it to the course greens. however that is now the chipping green. The trouble is the original green is as flat as a pancake and our greens are not.
So now our new putting green which was laid two years ago does have the slopes of our greens but will not have the pace for a couple of years.

Ours is normally faster. However, that's just the way it turns out. It's not deliberate, it just is. It's a big Green though. Huge. Like a tennis court.

I'd say ours is pretty much the same as the greens on the course. It is a bit hard to judge, though, because it is very slopey and depending on where the holes are cut it is difficult to find a longer putt without any break to really try this out. Actually, that is my only point of criticism for our practice green. It is great to practice putts with break for pretty much all imaginable situations. But it is difficult to find a flat bit on it to just quickly tune in to the speed of the greens for that day before a round. But it is really well maintained, always cut to the same height as the greens on the course and resembles the speed of our other greens fairly well. It is exposed to the sun a bit more, so especially in the mornings the dew might have already dried from it while the greens on the course with slightly more cover might still be wetter and slower.
