Best international side ever?

Best I've seen......

Anyone old enough to remember Uruguay in 30's/40's?

I'm too young for brazil 70....

Yep - the best side I've seen including the best of Brazil int eh 70's and 80's. We will never get to that level in my lifetime and I'd be amazed if England reached the final of any major competition

I'd say so. Frightening to think how much they could win given the age of most of their players.

Have been criticised for being pedestrian and passing backwards/sideways too much but I think tonight proved that when they want to they can open up any team virtually at will.

As was said on the commentary - what a match it would be between Brazil of 1970 and Spain of today..
Watched both and I think Brazil just edge it due to their "score as many as you like - we'll always score 1 more" attitude...

Don't read too much into the scoreline - Italy were down to 10 for the last half-hour through injury. It's hard enough playing Spain with a full set.
Interestingly, they put up a graphic around 80 minutes showing possesion was 50:50 - and that was with Italy having 10 men for 20 minutes.. so Spain were not as dominant, certainly possesion-wise, as you might think. Italy just didn't do enough with theirs.

All in all the best team won. Going to be odds on for the next World Cup.....

Football how it should be played, a masterclass.

Difficult to compare with Brazil '70, the hot weather then would make a big difference now.

Spains 2nd goal for me was the best of the tournament.
Fantastic run, slide rule pass and a great composed finish.

Fantastic performance. They d idn't set the heather alight earlier in the tournament, but showed their utter class tonight.

A joy to watch... at least in 30 years time, when people still talk about it, we can say we witnessed it!!

Difficult to see how there not going to dominate for years to come when you look at there ages.

I'm chuffed as got 3/1 and placed £50.00 on them.

Simply magnificent and the best I have seen. Probably the best ever....

For me the Brazil side of 1970 looked more exciting but none of the Brazil sides could defend and their keepers were poor so this Spain side probably is the best.

However I have a huge problem with this best side business cos for me top club football is stronger than international sides, the Barcelona of 2011, 2009 and even 2006 in full flow are stronger amd more exciting than the Spain internatonal side cos Barcelona's best player now is Argentinian and in 2006 Brazilian.:smirk:

This is a Spanish side that can get even better if they become more clinical.

Very difficult to compare eras as the game has changed so much. Arguable in this high tempo, superfit age, today's Spain are the best. Three major tournaments in a row. Remember, it wasn't long ago that they were chokers on the international stage!

Their football is so far removed from England's that it is embarrassing!

I was expecting a really dull exhibition of passing but not scoring... what a pleasant surprise to see they moved the ball about a bit quicker and got it moving forward more. Still think they could do with putting the odd ball into the box from a wide position ie: crossing it occasionally! but other than that is was by far the best I've seen them play. Torres is awesome... wish Liverpool would buy him back!
