Bloody lovely down here, I don't usually enjoy working away much but really enjoying it so far.
Went for a romantic walk with myself down to Royal Birkdale last night in the blazing sunshine for a peek at the course, didn't see much mind lol.
Off to the driving range at Formby later and may nip past Birkdale again for a better look.
Really nice vibe on the seafront, jeez I sound like the Southport tourist board :D
And finally, just how far does the sea go out from the beach?

A looong way!
Been a fair few yesr now since I lived there but from what I can remember if you get the train to Freshfield station there was/is a footpath that leads back up right along the length of the track, right alongside Hillside and Birkdale. The squirrel reserve in Formby is also well worth a visit, and you can find your way to the course up through the pine woods.

When i was a Train Driver in manchester and had to learn the routes up there to Southport , i use to spent most of the day up there , I would have settle up there and looking at the courses i would be a member at Hillside ..............Great place

Thanks for that mate, I'll hunt down that footpath tomorrow, I couldn't really see much from the sand dunes yesterday. Great little driving range down at Formby, Pro was very friendly and there seemed to be a lot of father/son stuff going on which was good to see.

No the next one down, Formby Golf Centre I think probably less than a mile down he road. Formby Hall didn't come up when I did a quick internet search for driving ranges in the area, does look nice mind.

This place... http://redteegolf.myprogolfer.co.uk/

Strangely named website but the place was friendly enough. Had what looked like a little 9 hole course and putting practice area.

I used to go there when working in the area, think they have a few pros work from there. I used to see David Lloyd, grey fox man in the first bay. Great guy, even gave me a free hour session because he knew how much I was struggling with the game.

Re the red tee website, I'm pretty sure they are connected to Huyton and Prescott gc, and the pro (john something..) has a say in matters

9 hole course is ok for chipping, longest hole being about 110 yards I think, but has the fake grass as very small putting greens. Good for people getting into the game.

The putting practise I'm not so sure of, they were installing a 9 hole crazy golf thing last time I was there, but no actual putting area.

freindly place though and a decent shop,

jeez I m starting to sound like I have shares in the place!

Blimey I remember when that place first opened. Had my first ever golf lessons there, think I was about ten at the time. It was literally just a range on a bit of old wasteground. Glad to see its flourishing:thup:

My home town sunny southport. Cracking place for golf you really are spoilt for choice!
Take a walk down near hillside golf club and the dunes and you can cut through between hillside and S&A and take it all in - truly great place.
Formby Hall has a 9 hole pga course and great practice facilities. If you do get down, ask for David, young liverpool gent who is a good friend of mine and will gladly help you out… (Say Craig sent you)
Whatever you do, just enjoy it! Glad you like the NW corridor of the golfing world ;)

I did try and get in and around Hillside/Royal Birkdale but there were paths going all over the place so I gave up and went for a run down the sea front instead (yes I was the slightly fat knacker puffing like Billy Ho the other day) :D
Really enjoyed my time there, shame I don't get there very often as the customer is only a small outfit.
