Off to silloth tomorrow and really looking forward to it!!

Being a member at southerness I'm prepared for what the elements May bring.

What's if any comparisons are there between southerness and silloth?

And which do u prefer.

Good deal at silloth £28. Bargain

This is just a question really to people who have played both.

I love both courses really. Silloth is a beautiful course that is framed well between the dunes. Not as testing as Southerness. There is 1 weak hole (the 10th I think), but the rest are great.

Southerness can be brutal at times. Totally exposed and with an almost constant wind that Silloth seems partially sheltered from.

IMO, Silloth can yield a good score when you're playing decent. Southerness is a brute in comparison...

Enjoy your round. I'm up at Silloth again in a few months and can't wait...

Played both last year, have to say I preferred Silloth by miles, it's a different league to southerness. £28 your in for a treat.

get yourself some fodder after the round as well. Great Fish and Chips in the Clubhouse.. Don't venture into the town though.. It's "Hills have eyes" country...:D

Silloth is like Nicole Sherzinger a visual beauty and a great ride

Southerness is like Kerry Katona, not great to look at and a very rough ride.

I enjoyed both. I really liked the way the first two holes snake off into the distance at southerness with out of bounds on both sides. Wondering where the rest of the course is. Truly unique. The wind absolutely battered us that day last year.

Silloth is the course id rather be a member at but southness is a lovely wee course. I'd love to play it on a still summers evening with the place to myself. It should be called wilderness as its out in the middle of nowhere.

Both brilliant courses. Silloth slightly less exposed due to the dunes lining a lot of the fairways. Beautifully crafted, you can look across the course from some of the raised tees and you can't tell there's a golf course there. The holes just wind their way through the dunes and you get a real sense of each hole being separate as you play them. Enjoy!

As a course Silloth has more about it.. Testing holes beautifully shaped by the dunes with a very natural feel, I think its a real treat of a course,When your stood on some of those raised tees looking down the undulating fairways I really don't think it gets much better in the uk.

location wise I do prefer Southerness, it's a great remote setting and in its own way a stunning course and a seriously tough test.

As Kenny said though ...Both very different and both top courses. If I could play one tomorrow though it'd be Silloth.
Make sure you try bacon & sausage butties too

Obviously as a Silloth member I'm biased but in truth they are both great courses.

As others have said the dunes at Silloth give the course much greater definition that Southerness and the views off the 6th and 9th tees are just fabulous.

There is a little more variety in the holes at Silloth, Southerness can feel as though you are playing a succession of long flat tough par 4's broken up with the occasional long tough par 3. It must be the toughest par 69 course it the country, thank god for css!

Silloth is out and back so you have wind helping you coming home (in the prevailing wind) and some birdie chances, whereas I always feel the wind at Southerness is in your face for the majority of holes and pars are good scores.

Always make a point of heading over to play the 36 scratch in July and usually come away badly beaten up although I did get it round in 72 one year which was about as good as I can play.

There is no doubt that you will enjoy it, make sure you sample the food.

Silloth by a good bit for me.

I've played both in high winds, but Silloth was still enjoyable, even though the score wasnt.

A lot more in terms of undulation and height changes, and you'll enjoy it more on the second playing of it, as you'll know some of the semi-blind lines better.

Southerness was too flat for me and a bit of a slog.

Sitting in the clubhouse listening to Liverpool getting 3 penalties at Old trafford was brilliant though, as was the food.

Silloth also for me but Southerness still a great course. It was so windy at Southerness the phrase "I do like my driveable par 3's" was born

Not a shabby choice.

2 great courses but very different. I love playing Silloth, still one of my favourite courses.

I need to play Southerness again as I had a golfing meltdown in brutal weather!! Southerness I think would still be a really tough test in good conditions, Silloth a bit more playable overall IMO.

Enjoyed both greatly. Southerness is more rugged and, for me, features the best hole from either course in the 12th.

I'd probably rate Silloth higher overall but that's not a slight on Southerness and, as others have alluded, it was a bit brutal the day we played it!

I think that is a fair assessment. I have a lot more experience of Silloth and think it has a lot of character, sometimes in a friendly mood, sometimes more grumpy. It has a fair quotient of quirk too, so a couple of games helps show the best way round.

Only played southerness and loved it, will play siiloth in the future and after reading all the great comments on here will try and fit in this year!

trouble is I have loads of links and links type courses that I am already planning on playing by September :)

Just in from silloth. Course is quality thoroughly enjoyed it. Few points in my opinion - greens are more receptive and I enjoyed them better than southerness. Fairways however are not a patch on southerness , they felt like more of a parkland course. Loved the dunes being around the course, kind of felt like turnberry. Can see why the English amatuer championship etc has been there.

Spoke to pro and he advised us someone there was -5, that's mental round there.

£5.10 for bacon roll and 1 cup of tea tho!!! Shocking
