Thanks for that Graham, I'll be there, Terry also and both looking forward to it.

Do you know how many are definitely playing and will it be groups of 3 or 4?

Cheers,

This should be a fun day! Now I just have to decide what three clubs to use for the par 3 course.

The weather is looking hopeful too!

Simon

You'll be 'in the zone' then Steve!

So we have 8.

P1Pete
Adrena1in
Viscount17
SyR
Twire
Golfmmad
Terry
Me

Any preferences on playing partners for the day, please let me know.

The par 3 comp will be on gross score. Just to make it easy. Unless anyone has an easy way of doing it. The main comp is stableford.

Phone reception at the club (well for those on Orange like me) is dodgey to non existent. So I won't be easily contactable. Though I'll see you at the barn that is the players 19th.

Have a safe journey, and we'll see you on Friday.

Bugger, can't make it due to crisis at work! Sorry.

So if anyone fancies a free game tomorrow contact Hapless....first come first served!!

Another free place is available I'm afraid. I've somehow hurt my eye over night and cannot open it. Going to the hospital now :(

Just to say many thanks to Graham for great forum day.
A little different to the norm - playing the 3 club challenge on the par 3 this morning, then 18 hole stableford in the afternoon.

There was a 3 way tie on the par 3 challenge and Graham decided instead of countback would have a play off on the 1st and 9th to find the winner. Made it a bit more interesting and finished the morning off nicely.

I have to say considering the course only opened at the beginning of 2010, it played like it had been there for years. In 5-10 years we all thought potentially, what a fantastic course it will be.

We were all made to feel really welcome and the catering staff even gave us complimentary beans with our sausage egg&chips

Finally, Graham had sorted some really super trophies for winners, in fact everyone went away with a little something, so all in all a thoroughly enjoyable day.

I'll leave it to Graham to announce winners.

Golfmmad.

got back at 9.30 after an epic couple of days of early starts and much driving, fortunately the traffic gods looked favourably upon me (although with 40 miles of roadworks to start today off I was wondering).

unfortunately Graham's hard work in organising this event was scantly rewarded with just five showing up. Still those who said they would then didn't missed out on what promises to be a cracking course once it's matured a little (it plays well now despite only opening this spring) - one that Justone and Jezz would love - a course that will allow long hitters plenty of scope but also needing a bit of care.
Lots of elevated tees, long swooping fairways, elevated greens (which ran true), some great scenery, oh and did I mention the wind?

Many thanks to Graham, and to Chris, Tim Terry and Julian for some lively banter and great company.

Sorry, how remiss of me, thanks too, to Graham, Steve, Tim,Julian and Terry. All top top blokes and great to share a round with.
Some great driving by Tim (AdrenIlin) - lovely swing, and not forgetting Steves, (Viscount17) chip in at the 18th - class

I'll be putting a brief write up of this in the next issue, could somebody let me have some details on the winner, anything interesting worth mentioning etc and any pictures if you took any.

Thanks

Colin

I'd have come if it was possible, likewise with the Beau Desert meet. Unfortunately I'm not available for everything! :D

Glad you made a decent day of it, and I hope you arrange another one next year.

Firstly. SyR, I hope that you got it sorted out.
Twire and P1Pete. It happens!! Hope that you both got things sorted at work.

Golfmmad, his friend Terry, Viscount17, Adrena1in, and Julian, a friend of mine and myself arrived at what was a blustery day with the threat of very ominious dark clouds scudding all around us. Luckily, apart from a little rain, it remained dry, though the ever present wind did increase as the temperature continually dropped through-out the day.

Starting with the par 3, nine hole, 3 club challenge, that includes a putter. As expected, we tried not to treat this in a blaze' fashion, and tried our utmost to at least try and put in a half decent score. Despite some of the greens best efforts to knock our putts off-line. After nine hole it was a three way tie between Viscount17 (Steve), Golfmmad (Chris), and Terry.

I decided that there should be a sudden death play-off over the 1st and ninth. I thought that it would be more interesting than a count-back, and provide those of us not playing a bit of amuzement and extra pressure to those that were. After the first it was still all tied. The next was a different matter as first Steve picked up after Chris chipped to within a foot of the hole, and Terry having thinned two across the green also picked up. Leaving Chris with at least two putts to win. Which he admirably holed on the first attempt.

After a relaxing lunch break we headed off to the 18 hole Greenwood course. After hearing so many horror stories about groupings, I let the toss of a pencil decide who was playing with whom. Seemed fair to me!

The conditions were difficult due to the amount of wind and how exposed the new part of the course is. I did think that this must be what it's like to play a links course on a bad day. Certainly the conditions would have suited a links player. No-one put in a stunning score, and you could tell on everyones faces that at some point or other they were suffering. Though as with all things golf we all have shots that were great, and we all left silly shots out there.

At the end of the day only 3 points (stableford) seperated first from last. So it was all very close, and perhaps for once proving that the handicap system does kind of work.

Julian won, Steve came second on a countback with Chris, his chip in on the 18th sealed that, and Chris finished third.

I was initially worried that the greens would be terrible as they were supposed to be spiking them or whatever it is they do to put rows of holes in the greens. But thankfully it hadn't been done. The course has not looked better since it's opening a few months ago. It will look even better over time as the trees grow, and as mentioned earlier, there are some holes that will suit the big hitters amongest you.

Many thanks to Chris, Terry, Tim, Steve and Julian for sticking with it, I had a very enjoyable day.

Footnote.

Do I do another one next year?

Mike Harris. Any chance of publishing your dates for any GM meets earlier on in the year? Or perhaps we do a joint one down here if you're willing to support it?

Thanks guys.

Graham

Thanks Graham, my eye is still bad but the doctors say it should get better.
I'm gutted I couldn't go, it sounds like it was a very good day. For sure I'd be keen to play in any future days.

First time I've managed to get on the forum since the game, (home laptop's died!). Thanks again for arranging the day Graham, it was very enjoyable. I do like the Greenwood course and if I do join a local club again one day it could well be East Horton. (And the girls in the restaurant have nothing to do with that decision! ;) )

Thanks for the compliments on my driving Chris, that happened to be the best part of my game for a change. Must be that 9.5 degree Stiff Ping G5 I bought off here! Shame the putting was letting me down...I'm still gutted to have missed my Eagle putt by so much, though at least I did save par on that one. Next time I play that hole it might be finished and making the green in two will be an achievement in itself.

So, maintaining my own handicap that means I'm now 16.5, i.e 17. Does that mean I therefore gain a point and didn't actually come equal last on Friday!? ;) Still, as Graham said, it was a close match. Me and Terry on 25 points, Graham on 26, Chris and Steve on 27 and Julian winning on 28. (Again, if only my Eagle Putt had gone in! If only I hadn't given up on 17 when I put my tee shot in that boggy trench! Grrrr!)
