I'm fancying trying something a bit different (for me anyway) this up coming winter. What I'm going to do is leave the leccy trolley at home to save getting both it and the car covered in mud and carrying just a half set of irons. Odds one week, evens the next. Hopefully it won't make much difference to my game and it may make me think a bit more and make me play different kinds of shots. Worth a whirl anyway.

I was thinking along similar lines. I took the whole kit today (leccy, GPS, kitchen sink) and I can't honestly think I'd have scored worse. As my standard return on a hole is a bogey, it doesn't matter which I carry, although it would be sod's law I'd turn up somewhere soon enough that had 3 x 6 iron par 3s.

What is it with courses that have endless x 150-160 yarders and 2 x 185-195 yarders. What's wrong with a really short one and a proper beast thrown in. :D

Come up to South leeds, you'll be sick to the back teeth of par 3 beasts I can assure you of that mate. Our shortest one is a tricky 6 iron and from there it's driver,3-4 iron, and another 4-7 depending on the wind.Real card wreckers never mind birdie op's.

Our shortest is only 139 yards but can be a 6 iron into the wind. We have 2 that are over 200 yards (229 1st - 217 17th) and the others are all pretty stiff challenges at 178, 178 and 186.

It's the par 3's that really protect the scores on our course. Even in the GM Forum meet 11points on these 6 holes took the prize so no-one played them to their handicap

This is the best pic I can find of our par 3 3rd. I can assure you the green is up there in the distance, with a bit of wind it's driver...oh and did I mention O.O.B all the way up the left and trees all the way up the right. Walk off with a 4 and you are smiling all the way to the 5th.

I do that every time i go for a knock, just take half a set, helps you think about playing different shots,eg choke down, punch shots, and you only have to clean half of them when you get back home....
