Some drivers are bad for the ears

The loudest I ever heard was the Nike Sumo 2. That was notoriously loud when it was introduced (see article here).
My Nike SQ Machspeed was noisy but nowhere near as loud as the Sumo 2. A friend of mine has an old Cobra driver and you can hear that wherever you are on the course.
I think at one stage the manufacturers did try to quieten the sound down a bit but that seems to have gone by the wayside again.
My current Callaway XR16 is certainly not quiet.
You just can't beat the satisfying "thwack" of a wooden headed club hitting a ball. :D

Sure it's the cavernous hollow in a 460cc head that accounts for the dreadful noise so would it not be reasonable for manufacturers to put a piece of polystyrene or sponge foam in the clubhead for sound dampening? Wouldn't weigh anything and doubt it would affect face 'bounce' or COR if it was set in a millimetre or two back from the clubface?

I think the problem is that manufacturers/some consumers actually like the dreadful noises so they arent attempting to reduce them. Taylormade has made a lot of improving the sound in this years M2 ("geocoustic") but it sounds dreadful compared to last years.
