I've just been trying some putters and some are soft and some hard. Is there an advantage or dissadvantage for any of them or just a personal preference?
I tried some Rossa and Yes putters and they were a lot harder than the white faced Odyssey putters.

Also can depend on what speed and size greens you would normally play on as hard faced putters send the ball off faster so better for slower or bigger greens.

Personal preference as above is probably most important though.

As above, personal preference.

Though I didn't get on with insert putters, but I get on far better with my milled faced Bettinardi. One thing I have noticed though with it. I really don't like the feel of hard distance type balls off it. So perhaps for me it's either, insert and hard ball or milled and a softer ball. But my current putter is staying put.

I tend to use a firmer face (TM Rossa or my Ping Anser) on slower greens but prefer the softer face of my oddyssey #9 in the summer and on courses with much quicker greens. Horses for courses and its about what you feel happier with. I do find that certain balls (Cally Tour Ix and Is) are much firmer off the face as well and so that is worth bearing in mind. They definitely come off the firmer faced putters much hotter

I've tried insert putters over the years and don't really like them much.
I reckon it's entirely down to preference.
