Hi all

im taking a society to windsor in september, looking to play either datchet or ascot both are close to where we are staying, majority of players are high handicappers but there is a few low ones.

no doubt there are members of both but would like to here feedback or would anyone recommend any other course within a 5 -10 mile radius that would suit

thanks

Obviously I'm going to recommend my own place but I can guarantee you a warm welcome, decent food and a course that is challenging but won't overtax the higher handicappers.

A number of guys on here played the GM day last year or have played at other times so I'll leave it up to them to a more unbiased opinion. If you want I can give you the name of the secretary and get a society pack sent to you

Haven't played Datchet for about 20 years, so son't really remember it. Played Ascot last year, and am doing so again later this year.

Datchet is an older, more established course, and for that reason would get my vote. To me, a newer course lacks the character that an older one develops (unless it was built 'money no object', which is rare).

Ascot. I hear that a kind member is offering a set of TaylorMade Tour preferred irons for closest the pin on the 17th....... :D

I'd go to Ascot if I were you...

You stand a chance of meeting up with a really good, hunky, well proportioned, elegant swinging, good looking, crowd pleasing golfer called Hywel....

or Homer

:D

Played Datchet years ago and I didn't really take to it. It was ok but from memory was quite short - I could be wrong on this. I remember birdieing the 16th to keep the match going so that's a nice hole......

There is one hole I remember, where you have to drive off over a railway embankment. That's a bit unusual.

Given the choice, I think I would find somewhere else?

Ritchings Park is ok. First 5 are a bit dull, but once you get round the back it's ok.
